HDCP failing

So I keep getting this message now and again "This screen does not support HDCP. Try reconnecting your HDMI cable, or use a different screen.",  seems to happen more when I put the box into standby and then switch everything back on within say a couple hours or short period it's fine when put into standby for the night and wake up next day. I thought it may have been my HDMI cable so I bought a different one and it's still happening the only thing I can think of now is the actual box is faulty .... the only way I can fix the problem is to turn the sky box off the tv off unplug the HDMI cable from both devices and reconnect .... it's absolutely doing my head in now it's ok when I'm in because I can do the fix but when I'm at work my wife can't do it as the tv is 75"

(Tried to attach a photo but wouldn't let me, basically a blue screen with the above error message on)

@BlythGavWhat resolution have you got your box set too try 1080i initially to see if that makes any difference, if it is not already set to that.

If this is a Samsung TV, usually if you turn on the TV first followed by the Q box it gets round the problem.

Re: HDCP failing

Cheers for the reply bob but it's failing randomly when it's set to 2160p 10bit,  bit pointless buying a 4K telly if I'm only using HD settings and once it fails you can't access the sky q box to change to 1080i

Re: HDCP failing

I'm pretty sure I've tried this before Simon , it is a Samsung so next time it happens I'll give it a go but like I say I'm sure I've tried that before and it didn't help

thanks for the reply

@BlythGavI was not suggesting leaving it on 1080i, just to see if it failed when in that resolution.

As there is so little 4K I leave mine in 1080i as the TV does a better upscalling job than the Q box and just switch to UHD when I download something in UHD.

Not just Samsung - this is what I have to do with my LG CX too.

It's a handshaking issue that appears to be across the board but it's very infrequent, thankfully.

Re: HDCP failing

This is now the 5th time, since i got this new 2tb uhd box installed last week, i,m getting this blue screen and the HDCP notice.

This morning, is locked me out with the blue screen thing and message altogether....
Usually, it just show that for few secs, then goes away, and sky home screen comes on....Not this morning, full lock out.

Had to unplug from mains and start again.

Using the sky pink cables supplied.

My tv is the Hisence 6100 uhd one, and yes, my settings are set to 3840 / 2160, and my Hisense auto switches to uhd / hdr when the right program is available, other wise it HD / cinema day setting..
When i had my 1tb NON uhd box, before this "upgrade", i didnt have ANY of this nonsense..

@jhp4561 the various suggestions earlier in the thread are worth trying. Certainly use 1080i when watching the bulk of the content - your TV will handle the upscaling etc and be probably will be better at it than the Sky Q box. When you choose a UHD programme the box will prompt you to switch which takes a minute or so. I would choose the 8 bit colour setting as whilst not directly going to help the DHCP issue it is often more stable. When going back to HD viewing enter Home1,0,8,0,Home on the Sky remote which rests back to 1080i.

The order you power on in does make a difference as the fault is caused by the Q box not getting a message from the TV that it supports DHCP2.2 within a given timescale after being asked if the TV is  powered on that is less likely to be an issue.

Re: HDCP failing

i am having similar issues, but never when switching on. mine will show blue screen mid progammes - really frustrating.. i power off from the remote and back on which seems to work

i think ther may have been an software update - only started happening oover the last few weeks... have unplugged Q box and tv and disconneceted  HDMI and it seems to be ok for a few hours then it strikes again... unable to contact SKY - personnaly i think its a software issue - but i am runnning the latest on both TV and Q Box

Re: HDCP failing

Well for anyone interested I think I fixed my problem, we've recently decorated so thought I'd tinker with my set up , left my sky Q connected direct to tv but removed my fire stick been going about 2 month now and never had the problem again (touch wood) fire stick is now connected via my onkyo amp and I've plugged my ps5 into where my fire stick was with an arc return to the onkyo.

so not sure if that helps anyone else but as some mentioned it appeared to be the handshake between devices with the fire stick messing that up

thanks for everyone's advice
