Full box!

Hello there ive been really enjoying the new Q box with many great pros, and also cons. The cons being at least 2 things ive noticed, the searching for programmes shows a lot less than HD,there is much less scope, which i was surprised about. On to the next con that coincides with that, the Box is full in less than a week! I thought the idea of this 1 TB box was you could do a lot more recordings but its not.I understand i record lots many are HD but the capacity filling so quick is very disappointing to say the least.I have a 100 maybe where as last week i had a 1000 on the other box before i copied, watched deleted or could see some duplicate versions on the Q box.Can someone please explain whats happening here thank you  again Jace!

@jace777  In order to fill a 1TB box you must be recording/downloading a lot of programmes, the boxes are designed to be used used for  time shifting and not as archiving systems.   You'll need to either delete the shows you've watched or eventually the box will do it for you.

Re: Full box!

Of course i have and will watch and delete most,it still doesnt answer my question on the capacity. Also each programme uses up a huge amount of space compared to before. Also theres no delete expiry date on most just BBC.

@jace777Sky will delete recordings from the box if it gets full regardless of source.

However when you delete something it does not actually delete it but hides it so you can undelete it if you wish. If you want to delete from the disk and not leave it to Sky go into manage in recordings then "manage" where you can "delete for ever" or "undelete" the recordings.

No: it's the same content on Sky+ and Sky Q, apart from the option for UHD.  If you were previously consuming SD, then yes, HD would be a lot bigger.

 @jace777

on a 1TB box I think  there is about 700Gb of user space

HD recordings are about 2.5-4.5Gb per hour , UHD around 7.5-8.5 Gb per hour minimum

700 Gb is around 85 hours worrth of UHD or 150 hours of HD

That is a lot of recordings !

I have many saved recordings but they have been accumulated over many years & contain some I want to keep of full days sporting events but I have enough space to record several days of F1 or golf

The key is to make sure you delete recordings when watched

As others have mentioned you can go to Recordings -Manage to see what space recordings are taking up space and it is ordered b those taking up the most space  to help

Re: Full box!

Thanks as ive said its much more different i had 1000 recordings many on SD granted, but im forced to record on HD many sports channels like LFC Premier Freesports etc ,as theyhave ditched the SD option.for example 1 recording would never go over 1 GB before it would have to 3 hours or more of an HD programme. Here even SD is similar usage, hence the very rapid filling box!

Wow & I thought I was a hoarder of programmes & I think many think I am barmy as I rarely get to watch many of my recordings again - although the days of sports recordings I have were for events I attended and I like to skip to specific parts (I really miss the bookmarks that SKY HD had but Q doesn't)

I know it is good coming from me- who has so many recordings that I do keep - but there is little point in keeping recordings you can never get round to watching.

Disks fail and you should always treat SKY disks as temporary rather than permanent

Re: Full box!

1000 recordings! say each was 30 mins equals 30000 minutes, 500 hours, nearly 21 days solid viewing without sleep. A true TV fan!!

Not taking into count that it is also increasing by 21 days of extra recordings as well so endless viewing ...
