Fttp and voip

I am considering fttp installation and wondered if it was mandatory to have internet calls ( voip ). I have two wired extensions and would prefer to keep them. Also is it full fttp or  gfast ? Do I keep my existing number, and what is the lead time from order placed to installation?

Thank you

Sky only sells SOGEA 'Ultrafast' so there's no access to analogue Sky Talk and no longer a 'landline' subscription

I have two wired extensions and would prefer to keep them

That's not officially supported by Sky or offered in a 'standard' Openreach FTTP install: it's theoretically possible through a 'voice-reinjection installation' (VRI).

Also is it full fttp or  gfast ?

500Mbs has to be FTTP: 150Mbs may be FTTP or G.fast depending on local Openreach infrastructure.  Where there's FTTP availability at an address this is now always used in preference to copper.

Do I keep my existing number

Yes (in most cases but there may be exceptions)

and what is the lead time from order placed to installation?

Depends on the complexity of the installation* and the availability of suitably trained Openreach personnel

(*the 'stage of build' database on the link that @cookiemonsteruk indicated should provide some information on this)

@Jim+Barr

If you enter your full address below and post the full table to confirm fttp or g.fast and the stage of build as denoted at the end of wbc fttp

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

Also g.fast and fttp both require the phone to be connected to the hub

Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21

If I get it right mark as answered

Openreach actually offer VRI in their 'Premium' FTTP installation service:

"carry out Voice Re-injection Installation (VRI), which uses existing internal wiring to make use of traditional telephones"

but I don't know of any ISP that makes the premium service available as an option to subscribers, even at extra cost.

In theory it's DIY retrofittable, but as this potentially involves messing with the master Openreach socket (which may or may not be still physically connected back to the exchange) it is not without risk.

Andrews and Arnold, in their typically somewhat anarchic way, have a page on a potential DIY version (although theirs makes specific reference to SOGEA over copper rather than fibre), but I'm not going to link to it ; )
