Playlist profiles are good I personally won't use it but it is important for families. The one modification Sky need to make to really improve this product is in Continue Watching, 3 simple options against anything that pops in there.
1. Watched Episode
2. Watched Series
3. Remove Entirely
That's it...... oh happy days then.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Anonymous I couldn't agree more. Just 3 simple steps and Sky would have loads of happy customers.
Another urgently needed improvement would be to stop the blue progress bar disappearing so we know which episodes of a series we have already watched.

So my telly has updated to the latest software.
.on custom, local dimming is on. Should I have the auto backlight on auto now to see the difference?
Backlight is currently at 50.
Picture definitely looks somewhat warmer than before..

I had the update this morning. Now I can't watch any sky programs saved to the playlist. I can use iplayer, 4od and itv+. I can watch sky channels live. I've reset the router and TV. I've refreshed apps. Nothing has worked.
I've got Vodafone broadband. The screen says "please wait for your program to load" but I thought that was an issue with the 3 network. No issues with internet on my phone or laptop and as I can use non-sky catch-up, this is an issue affecting sky channels. It was working fine when I went to bed last night.
Any ideas? I'm reaching the point where this piece of "technology" is about to be launched through a window. I couldn't give a fig about the backlight function. Fix the playlist and the issues that physically prevent people from watching first.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSounds like the issue that was affecting the 3 network is now affecting Vodafone
the work around for the guys on 3 was to change the dns on their routers or mesh networks to 1.1.1.1
or using a router with vpn settings added

@kph103 wrote:The thing is here is that the quality of good tv's is so much better than Glass
I am a notorious early adopter of anything new but would never have had Glass over my OLED.
so when stream came along it seemed like a perfect match.
If Glass had been OLED though that might have changed my mind.
Yep, I have two Oled tvs and that is exactly why I never went for glass tv. Given the price of them I just knew that the quality would not be that good.

What does everyone think of the upgrade last night????
It has made SUCH an improvement on the HDR viewing....like, I'm genuinely outstanded by the quality, considering it's a software update....you'd think that it was a hardware update given the difference.....
I've been watching and playing, for that matter, different content all day checking it out....very pleased with the EVENTUAL outcome.......
They just need to fix HDR on windows now....as it's non-existent....

So is anyone benefiting from this update on Auto or custom or something else??

What settings have you got?
06 Dec 2022 06:21 PM
Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Alexwesley93 the firmware has turned on a hardware feature which allows the set to turn off areas of the backlight so making blacks darker. This was disabled very soon after launch due to satbility issues. To my eyes the prak brightness has also been imotoved not seen any figures but this isnt unlikely as Sky may have limited peak brightness to give reasonable blacks with the full backlight being on.
The press had a preview when Sky Stream launched and was pretty imprissed. Certainly my own Glass is significantly better. One odd thing thst any geeks out there want to test try counting dimming zones with one of the You Tube test videos. I have owned a Panasonic FALD set before and that had 256 zones which was good. Glass seems to have a few more. 😉
@Anonymous I am using the Movie preset as I prefer a "natural" picture but choose the preset that looks best for you in your room. One other point the Automatic Backlight setting now defaults to off which is a good thing.

So i don't have to have the auto backlight setting on in order to benefit frommthe better picture upgrade.
Local dimming is in though.
Tried Carnage et trois via Amazon and the tomorrow war..
Looking good.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Anonymous you are correct the key setting is localised dimming. I found I could reduce the backlight from 65 to 50 for SDR content which does mean HDR has better punch. Improved blacks mean viewing in low light conditions is now far better.
For anyone getting the new firmware do reboot their TV as mine looked very odd before I did that.

@Anonymous 😂
does anybody else's tv now go through a few brightness adjustments when you first select a channel on the tv guide?
