FTTP install questions
FTTP has become available and I've booked my installation (finally an upgrade from the woeful speeds we get now) but have some questions:
- Will I get a new router? I've got the original sky Q hub from when it first came out but I've never used it as I have an Asus DSL-AC88U because the sky router WiFi cover was very poor. Will either of these work with fibre?
- Does the fibre follow the same path from the telephone pole as the existing phone line or will they try to come in elsewhere? The phone line connects between the ground and first floor then runs down the fascia and through the front door frame.
- How long will I lose my Internet for on install day?
Thanks

You will get the sky broadband hub sr203. The sky q hub won't work but your asus will directly connected to the ont
If your ont can be placed within 10m from where you copper line enters the property and 3ft from a wall socket then that would be the easiest way to duct in the fibre

Re: FTTP install questions
If every thing goes well your existing connection may be down for as long as it takes openreach to install the ont . 1/2 hour to 1 hour

Re: FTTP install questions
Just noticed the "Asus DSL-AC88U" it will need to be put in wireless router mode to bypass its own dsl modem. It will loose dhcp option 61 authentication but you should still be able to authenticate via dhcpv6 prefix delegation

Hopefully no loss of service at all: the current connection shouldn't be ceased until the new one is running, and there's no overlap in infrastructure at the subscription address.

Re: FTTP install questions
Do you know of any guides for that?
I've never been able to get dhcp 6 working on the current connection.

Not all exchanges are capable of authenticating dhcp v6 on fttc connections. But supposedly all fttp connections will have that functionality

The dhcp v6 pd method involves
Enabling ipv4/ipv6 on the wan
Selecting dhcpv6 (dynamic) on the wan
Enabling pd/prefix delegation on the wan
Selecting slaac/stateless for address creation on the lan

That's one wierd router if the modem does the authentication because that is usually a function of the router side. All the modem should be doing is syncing the connection with the street kit. 😀
