F1 the B team
Just used SKY for the first time to watch F1 grand prix (Australia). Tuned in on Saturday morning to watch qualifation re-run. Sky had altered their schedule - instead of seeing qually, I was told the result!! Thanks for nothing SKY.
Watched the race re-run on Sunday. Instead of post race interviews I was presented by some duffer called Ted drivelling on and on.
All this at great expense.
SKY are definately the B-team. Perhaps if they were to double their efforts they could, given a huge slice of luck and a strong following wind, apsire to mediocracy.
Bring back the BBC.

Re: F1 the B team
Better to record the original live version and watch that when you want to as there's always a danger you'll catch the end of another re-run or analysis show before your desired broadcast re-run is on.

Re: F1 the B team
I'd rather have the Sky coverage than the old BBC one. They had no pre or post race analysis. They joined it with the formation lap about to start. If you just want the action, that's what the highlights are for.

I seriously doubt the BBC are in a financial (or political) position to bid for the post-2024 UK broadcast rights, but they can do so if they wish. Frankly if Netflix and/or Amazon are interested, Sky themselves may struggle to offer enough.
" British F1 broadcast rights have been contested for decades between local players but the battle is now going global. The BBC lost its F1 deal to ITV in 1997 before winning it back in 2009, when the cost to show live races was estimated at £40m per year. By 2019, Sky’s new six-year agreement was reported to be worth around £1bn: £167m per season. "

Re: F1 the B team
Neither Netflix or Amazon are the "major sports broadcasters" that many people think they are.
Amazon especially are generally interested in "opportunity knocks" rights that suit their demographic - there's been a few reports that one of the tennis majors won't be renewed with Amazon and could be heading back to Sky.
F1 is one of Sky's major contracts, they won't give it up without a fight.

Re: F1 the B team
Like the cost for sky per year is about £200 million for f1 rights
I do not think with the political pressure on bbc that they could justify spending that.
What sports do netflix show? none.
They do have some documentary series but they do no live sports at the minute. Although their head did state openness to bidding.
Prime video - depends on how much they feel that f1 customer do not have prime accounts already because it is about bundling these two, as it is the free delivery that interest amazon to the proposition.

The sports rights market has changed substantially in recent years, and apart from some notable exceptions - large-scale FTA coverage of major sports is now unrealistic. Not to mention a bidding war between Sky and any other pay-TV rivals pricing the BBC out of the market.
You only need look at the Six Nations - BBC & ITV have to club-together to put together a big-enough bid to stop it going pay-only.
Amazon's primary interest is to drive Prime subscriptions for retail sales rather than selling a sports package as such.
