Download speed extremely low

had Broadband switched from BT today (used to get 70Mbps download) to Ultrafast, BT engineer checked the speeds and was getting 160Mbps to the router but only 30Mbps download to any devices, he said it was a bit odd and checked with sky, they said it was because my account wasn't acctivated yet, and it would be sorted in a few hours .
Just checked with sky, my account is now fully activated but still only getting 30Mbps download speed, been told this is pretty much all I can expect and it's to do with interference etc and due to my speeds being fine to the router there are no issues and they won't be looking into it any further

Any ideas whats going on? I have upgraded to a faster internet and am now getting slower speeds.
I have one device (ethernet) connected so it's certainly not interference.

Re: Download speed extremely low

@Monkeyboysteve If you've just switched across it can take 24-48hrs for the profiles to update.

WiFi will never solidly deliver the full capability of the connection. The device that is connected by ethernet is that a PC? Worth running a speedtest on that when nothing else is in use. That will get you a fairly solid idea that you are getting the speed you should be on your connection.

Re: Download speed extremely low

Yeah, ethernet connected to PC, nothing else connected at all. Sky have saidd my speed to the hub is solid, openreach engineer said he was a bit puzzled about why my speeds were so low from the hub itself when he tested it, he even rang sky to query it but never got an answer.
I was never pending an upgrade to Ultrafast plus, my previous question was asking about a potential upgrade in the future.

No, sadly it wasn't available I don't believe. You told me it was only available ast cost to myself in that thread. it never shows as an option on any of the postcode checkers, (even though BT said it was in a flyer)

Unfortunately that was fttp on demand. Which due to the expense tends to be a business service

Re: Download speed extremely low

Do any ideas why I'm getting such low download speeds? As I said 30Mbps on a 145Mbps connection seems extremely low. Especially with a wired connection with no other devices connected.

Even openreach said it was unusually low.

There have been issues on g.fast whereby it takes a couple of days for the right profile to be pushed thru to the hub which can afffct throughput speed. Any longer sky need to investigate.

Also check the ends of the ethernet cables to make sure its cat 5e or above you can check the ethernet plugs as well if all 8 pins are wired then the hub ethernet settings need set to gigabit. If you don't have gigabit cables then you need cat 5e or above to push throughput over 100Mbps

Re: Download speed extremely low

it's cat7, it worked perfectly fine yesterday morning on BT at 70Mbps, as soon as it switched to Sky it dropped.
the speeds getting to the hub from the cabinet are all fine when i check, they said initially to the engineer on the phone  that it was becaue my account hadn't been activated fully and that it would be fully activated when he finished the job, they confimed the account is now fully active (via live chat) but still no changes in the speed.

Sky have basically said there are no issues with my hub etc, everything is set up and it's just wireless interference in my home slowing things down (on a wired connection?), but I really can't believe that's the case when i had double the speed before on BT with a slower package.

@Monkeyboysteve

You need to give it 48-72 hours. Seen it time and time again on the forum.

If your speed hasnt come up after 72 hours after activation then switch the router off for 20mins to fetch a new public IP. If the speed still isnt up after you do that then come back here and we can help further.
