Connect Main Sky Box by Ethernet Cable
Is it possible, to connect your router directly to your sky box using an ethernet cable, and have access to the internet?
Or does the router still need to be connected to the power line through the socket on the wall?
Ideally, I'd like my router in side our tv unit next to the sky box, to avoid having messy cables where the router is currently positioned (plugged in next to wall).

Absolutely: the phone line connection on a Sky+ box has been obsolete for some years, and Sky Q has no such socket.

Thanks for the reply!
So just plug an ethernet cable from the sky box into the router, and that's it??
Cheers,
Scott.

Re: Connect Main Sky Box by Ethernet Cable
Ah, hang on, are you talking about disconnecting the router from the phone line and somehow using the Sky box for internet access with the router distributing this locally? No - that's not going to work, as there's no internet data arriving over a Sky satellite signal and a Sky LNB has no uplink capacity: this requires a much beefier unit (as below).
While two-way internet access over satellite is a thing (originally geosynchronous and now LEO via Starlink), it's not something Sky has ever provided (although there was once a service that used dial-up outbound and satellite data inbound: this didn't have much success).

Re: Connect Main Sky Box by Ethernet Cable
That's correct - so it does need to be connected via the phone line?

Re: Connect Main Sky Box by Ethernet Cable
A router does, yes (unless it's FTTP, WISP, cellular, satellite etc). Standard 'Superfast' (FTTC), Ultrafast over G.fast and ADSL all arrive over the copper phone line.
