Re: Changes to the Sky TV guide - December 2020

@plymouthbloke

These channels are on other platforms in Ireland as I did my research and i seen it with my own eyes they pulled  them from Sky only because they charging in the double figures to Broadcasting them.. way to much that others want to pay sky for.

Sky are No Angels .behind all this a lot of channels is to do with them and the price hikes. They even wanted to charge a charity station, (Christmas FM ) in the double figures that's why they won't go near sky. I did my research into this as well..

Can you clarify what you mean as double figure as to me that means £10 to £99, which seems quite reasonable to me

@plymouthbloke  You're still talking nonsense, it's nothing to do with licensing Sky are not making money so have culled them. Now 70s or 80s or 90s or any of those channels that are gone from Sky EPG only don't require a license, Sky requires a broadcast license, Virgin Media requires a broadcast licence. If the Now music want to setup their own tv broadcasting company they will then need a broadcasting licence. Stop talking nonsense you clearly no nothing about.

Re: Changes to the Sky TV guide - December 2020

@Hi.hi  It just comes down to money, I'd say any channel that is not paying up will be cut. It's a pain in the neck having to watch these channels on the other channels section. Pity greed got in the way

Re: Changes to the Sky TV guide - December 2020

So basically we're expected to pay the same amount for less channels? Surely this breaks contract and therefore we're entitled to close our account without penalty??

Apparantly these channels were subscription free (FTA) so you were never paying for them in the first place, anyone with a sky box and NO subscription could have watched them

You can see which channels are not in your subscription by removing you viewing card and tuning to each channel, if you still have access then the channel will be FTA

The 30 day notice stands unless You are able to specify thr part in the contract that allows that

On checking my contract, it states:

7.7. Some channels you receive may be provided by other broadcasters. The availability of these channels and the
programmes on them is outside of our control and we are not responsible for them.

Also

Even if you don’t subscribe to Sky digital, you’ll be able to enjoy more than 200 non-subscription TV
and radio channels on digital satellite including Sky News, Challenge, PICK TV, Film4, Bliss, Scuzz, CNN
International, Bloomberg and The Community Channel. The radio channels include: Absolute • Gold • XFM
• Classic FM • Planet Rock • Heart • talkSPORT • RTÉ Radio 1 • 2 FM • Lyric FM • Radio na Gaeltachta. These
channels are not offered by Sky and their availability is outside Sky’s control. Sky will not be liable if they or
their content is withdrawn or changed. Your box may need manual tuning to receive some free channels

---

I mean a discount would be nice but I never watched those channels mentioned.

In theory, as I do watch sky nature and sky comedy a bit, I should be asking sky yo increase my cost. I won't

If these changes affect your viewing, then yes you should consider taking your business elsewhere

Although I do hope that people have complained to the stations directly about this, if they are upset or through viewer relations.

Complaining is just complaining to other customers

Why are you still paying if you're so upset?

If I find a service no longer provided what I want or value for money I will drop that service, that is just common sense

Re: Changes to the Sky TV guide - December 2020

I tried to cancel today but they will not let me because my contract is not up yet this is the worst thing about a contract you can not cancel even if there are **bleep** all channels

That's already been explained in this very thread.

Sky, like most companies, have a freeze on changes to their infrastructure over the Christmas period (because of reducing staffing at both Sky and their technical partners).

The changes have to be in place before the new year, so need to be made before that freeze starts.
