Hey guys,
So basically my dad used to pay for sky as the primary account holder, we switched about 3 years ago when they moved out so I now pay all the bills etc for sky, but I'm not down as the primary account. I'm unable to gain access on my dad's account as he can't remember password/username etc. Every time I have tried to reset this it just takes me to the contacting sky page. And when contacting sky they need the security questions to gain access, again which he doesn't know. Never been an issue until now but we have upgraded to sky q and need the primary account holder to link to the sky q box in order to continue using it.
Any ideas?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThe way to do this would be for your dad to cancel, and for you to set up your own account as a new customer. Sky don't allow transfer of ownership of Sky accounts, I'm afraid.

I have the same problem and it was suggested that i cancelled the subscription and then took out a new one in my own name. My questions is am I able to do this as I am not the primary account holder I cant see sky agreeing to it, so you are permanently locked into an account you cant manage, The only way out would be to cancel payment and then they would close the account but if you then opened a new account in your own name would you be able to access the recordings stored on the sky box.

if you are still at the address the account is registered to then you won't be able to sign up as a new customer until the account is cancelled
if the equipment is Sky q then it'll need returning so recordings won't be accessible

Possibly not as they would have been recorded via a different viewing card that was tied to the other account.

So I am locked into an account not in my name and I cannot amend the package as I dont know the passwords. I wanted to cancel sports and cinema but cant and now I cant even cancel the subscription. surely there is something can be done?

Only as described already - stop paying. As it's not your account you're not locked into anything.

If I stop paying and the account lapses and I open a new account in my name as caesarome says this would need a new viewing card.
So I wouldnt have access to the pre recorded items and i would not have access to Sky during this period.
I wonder if I would be able to open a new account at the same address as a lapsed account?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@mdpat You can only open a new account at the same address once the previous account is officially cancelled and paid up by the account holder
Stopping payment won't help as the account will just incur debt which your father will be liable for and may result in debt recovery and your father getting a bad credit rating, the account will never lapse until your father officially calls Sky and cancels his account

Only once the other account has been closed as the account holder would be liable for any outstanding fees on it so it might be that Sky wouldn't let a new account be started until the fees had been paid so this would be something you would need to check with them.

So if it is not possible for him to contact Sky that's why I want to change the account into my name then by what everyone is saying is,
I cant amend the package as I dont know the password and I cant cancel the account as I dont know the password. This is crazy is there any solution?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@mdpat if neither of you can remember the password, Sky should be able to verify your fathers identity via other means when he phones
so when phoning mentioned that you can't remember what the password is
failing that there's nothing else that can be done
