Can I watch sky sports while abroad.

I am in Italy and want to watch rugby on sky sports

It's very much possible, as you will find by stepping into many bars. 

@KMMG - you will likely find coverage in a licensed venue while over there. Most of the biggest sports are on DAZN and Sky Sport. Both are available widely in pubs, clubs etc.

@d2h  I think you will find that Sky Sports UK is legally only available in the UK and Ireland, not outside, anyone showing these channels outside the UK are doing so illegally.  

OP asked about Sky sports in Italy therefore my answer is correct.

are you already a customer of sky/?

if so, are you in ireland or the uk?

if you are in ireland and previously used sky go on the device you wish to watch it on, you can watch for a limited time in italy.

As @TimmyBGood  previously confirmed that doesn't always work as sky's go server's can't always differentiate between a uk and roi postcode hence it could still be blocked

I mean as an irish customer, if I went to Denmark tomorrow, could I be blocked from watching sky on my phone's sky go app?

No, you shouldn't be. If you are a Sky Ireland customer then you can use Sky Go in Europe as per this:

Whilst I have no doubt that does happen based on the few number of posts we see on here from Sky Ireland customers I would say that the number this happens to must be quite small.
