Amazon prime video

I was watching a programme on prime video and fast forwarded to the end of the programme and pressed play and had the buffering circle go round for a while so decided to rewind out of it. Is this normal? I tried it again on another episode the same thing and everything was OK. Also sometimes it buffers longer than other times is this normal?

@clare198034

Prime Video content is all streamed: if your broadband speed has dipped or other devices are using it then that's to be expected.

Re: Amazon prime video

Ok thankyou. Is it normal for the broadband speed to dip even if you are not using any other devices?

@clare198034

How far is your Sky Q main box from the router?

Devices often still 'use' your broadband even if you're not actively using that device.

  • Can you connect them using an ethernet cable, its a far better option than Wifi?

Re: Amazon prime video

Yes I can but prefer over the WiFi, is it normal for broadband speeds to dip over all broadband providers. Is my router close enough to the main box?

  • It is usually that customers don't like trailing cables, if that is your issue look into powerline adapters that use your hidden mains wiring and short ethernet cables.
  • Wifi is very variable depending on your access speed and home layout, get advice and check your broadband here - Help for Sky Broadband | Service status | Sky.com

@clare198034have a look at the speed you are actually getting at the router, you can see how to access it from the card in the router.

As Amazon streams if your WiFi speed is marginal it does not take much to cause it to buffer. You don't get the problem with Sky downloads as they don't directly stream but download at  whatever speed is available then can  be watched at full speed.
