Adding an access point

Hello,

I have just had my loft converted and have an ethernet cable running up there. I want to add an access point to the current network so that I can seamlessly connect no matter where I go in the house.

Does any one have any suggestion what would be the best hardware to do this?

If Sky is your ISP, the Sky wireless booster which matches your Hub model can be a good option (if you can source one).

Personally I use cheap TP-Link APs as I've no need for anything better at home: at work I've got around 40 Unifi UAP-AC-LRs, but that's another story. If I upgrade at home, it will probably be with these as I like having ethernet ports available.

Be careful that whatever you get is actually an access point and not a router.

If you entire house is run thru the same mains circuit wifi enabled powerline adapters will route the packets via your electrical wiring

Similar powerline adapters act as ap's but only require enough ethernet cable from router to plug and plug to device

Just re re read. If ethernet already in place then just an access point near the device will suffice

@symun A direct ethernet cable will always provide the best performance, and is superior to Powerline tech. Powerline is the next best thing ahead of relying on WiFi if you can't run a proper ethernet cable. 

1) Ethernet - Best

2) Ethernet - Better

3) WiFi - Hit and miss/Usable/convenient

As you have (smartly) already run a cable, use that and get an access point as @TimmyBGood suggested 🙂🤓

If you want seemless connection up there then the best option is a Sky booster. Any other AP may not for whatever incompatability reason make your devices roam over to it properly.
