Why do I have to pay a month in advance? Do I get a free month?

Just signed up to sky broadband and apparently I have to pay a month in advance will I get this money back? Or a free month of broadband?

With Sky we pay in advance so should you ever leave then any overpayment would be refunded.

You won't.  All billing is daily pro-rata.

 

Basically you have to pay for service before you use them rather than after.  (So if you don't pay you don't receive...)

 

It's fairly standard for telecoms, e.g. NetFlix won't let you watch if you don't pay in advance...

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Had toob installed on the 27th September 2025 with the one touch switch service now sky hasn't switched off when I used the one touch switch receive a text and email confirming we sorry you are leaving your service will be switch off on the 27th of September but it hasn't still live, ive also checked my future bills that they still billing me for the next bill date they wait get any more money from me due to you have to give them a month payment first then any payments when the service stopped upto 45.days to refund.

Sky bills are created 14 days in advance so if you are seeing a future bill this does have to be paid then after it has been you should then see a credit and a call Sky to call Sky should then get this refunded to you within 5 working days.

 

As yesterday was a Saturday you might find your broadband connection is disconnected tomorrow at the earliest so if this doesn't come you will want to phone them to find out what is happening.
