When do Sky notify Virgin that I am switching?

Hi, I am in the process of switching from Virgin to Sky for Broadband and TV. I still have six months of the Virgin contract outstanding and told sky this when I signed up. I was assured by the sky representative that this would not be a problem, but I know that virgin's info suggests I will still be liable for the full cost of the six months service. The sky representative said to contact sky if I run into this problem. I have some questions -

1) at what point in the process do sky notify virgin of my intent to switch?

2) when does the 30 day cooling off period commence (order date, switch on date or something else). This is my fall back if virgin insist on the full amount and I made that clear to sky

3) if virgin insist on the full amount, who should I contact at sky to help me?

I want to make the switch but can't afford to pay six months of both services.  My last resort is to cancel during the cool off period and then run down the Virgin contract.

@RR76

To answer your questions:

1. Usually 14 days notice is required to change to Sky.

2. The day you go live with Sky is when the cooling off period starts.

3. Sky have no say in what Virgin do or do not bill you as you will need to pay Virgin any early termination charges. However there is a program whereby you can claim up to £100 for TV and £100 for Broadband when switching to Sky if you are charged an early terminarion fee, you can read about this here:

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/switching-credit-offer

You must provide a copy of the bill from Virgin where you have been charged and a copy of a statement showing that you have paid it and send these to Sky via this email address - switching credit @sky.uk (all one word without the gap)

@RR76  cooling off period starts from activation date with regards to broadband

which tv platform are you having with sky Q or glass/stream as the activation date defers between the two

you are liable for the full termination charges that virgin charge what the agent was likely referring to was that you can claim upto £200 in switch credit on your sky account £100 per service

@RR76  For sky stream billing starts the day you set it up upto 21 of receiving the puck, if you don't activate yourself within 21 days of receiving the puck, sky will do so automatically on the 21st day and start
