Are you referring to the support email address I linked?

Re: VIP Athletic

Aye yes sorry. It's not manned.

I find it hard to believe sky supplied a VIP reward code and then didn't make provision for how to cancel it at the end of the 12 months. While I appreciate the athletic only Sky, Sky provided the reward and therefore should be presenting a solution.

Sky can't present a solution as they aren't the owners of The Athletic, they provided a voucher code for a free subscription, when you sign up to the subscription, your contract and service is with the New York Times.

Also as per the instructions on https://help.nytimes.com/360003499613-Cancel-Your-Subscription, if you click on Cancel Subscription button on that page, it will take you to another page and allow you to open a live chat with their customer services.

Re: VIP Athletic

Mark, I get you are a sky superfan and a wanna be sky employee but honestly this is a sky issue to resolve - they need to issue guidance. I won't be the only person who took up this offer and therefore I won't be the only person with this exact issue. Sky need to get on the case and issue instructions. Getting in touch with an American company is going to be a ballache for potentially many thousands of sky vip customers.

Odd beyond belief that they have a support email address that is in actuality a no-reply email address.

Also, don't be a child when people are giving you correct advice.

Re: VIP Athletic

Was anybody able to resolve this? I signed up for this offer 12 months ago, have just gone to cancel it only to find there is no option to do so - not on Sky, not on Apple, not on the Athletic, not on NY Times. I can just see that I am subscribed. There isn't even a renewal date or any billing info. As I recall, I don't think I gave them any card details so hopefully if it is set to auto renew they can't get any money.

Re: VIP Athletic

I contacted Customer Care on the NY Times website https://help.nytimes.com/115015385887-Contact-The-New-York-Times. First I had to chat with a virtual bot, but after telling it that its advice wasn't useful I was tranferred to a real advisor and they cancelled it for me. They said it would take 24 hours but within a few minutes I refreshed my account page and the subscription had been cancelled. Hope you have the same success!

Re: VIP Athletic

^ just came to say the same thing. Rang the number and after about a 2min wait was put through. They do ask for your 9 digit account number so make sure you have that but they cancelled it pretty quickly and it no longer shows as an active subscription in my nytimes account. Thankfully, there'll be legislation in place in Spring next year to prevent this faff.

Re: VIP Athletic

I followed Mighty Moz's advice and seems to have worked. I was told my subscription would carry on until Feb 2027 which makes sense as I took up Sky's offer around Feb 2026. The customer advisor, however, did confirm he had requested that my account be cancelled. I will check in a couple of days to check state of play.

It looks like the offer has been carried over for another year as well.

I activated the offer when it first launched last June/July and i've just noticed the 1 year free was available again to be reclaimed in Sky VIP, and the T&Cs do say a new 12 month code can be reclaimed once the previous free subscription has expired.
