VIP Athletic

Will the subscription just cancel. After the 12 months or do I need to contact Sky to remove the  subscription? Many thanks if anyone knows

You need to cancel it via your Athletic account, Sky won't be able to cancel a subscription you have with another provider. When you use the free Athletic offer you create an account with the Athletic and use the discount code Sky provides to get the first year free, which is the reason the cancellation has to happen via the Athletic account you created to redeem the code.

Re: VIP Athletic

I took out the Sky VIP offer and wanted to check how to cancel when the offer date passed. I went to The Athletic website to find out about cancellation and the link explained it has to be done via NY Times. I followed the link and opened the Subscription options, but there is no cancellation option there. I then asked NY Times how to cancel The Athletic subscription and their response was it had to be done via Sky. I assume you have to ring Sky?

Re: VIP Athletic

Tried the chat which was not that useful to be honest. One of the automated kind. I will ring and get a human instead!

Re: VIP Athletic

I have a question about this also.

its now June 2026

I've gone into my Athletic/NYT account and there is NO option to cancel/manage the subscription - so how can we cancel?

I'd suggest following the guidance from the New York Times, and if necessary, having to contact their customer support if you are unable to cancel through your account (https://help.nytimes.com/360003499613-Cancel-Your-Subscription) .

All the Sky offer did was give a voucher code for a discount on the subscription; the actual subscription is managed by the New York Times, so they would be the best people to give advice on how to cancel the subscription at the end of the free trial.

Re: VIP Athletic

as a heads up this is what you see when you look at your account setting in the athletic itself

Subscription

You have access to The Athletic via your NYT subscription. Manage via NYT

when you follow the link to thr NYT you get

Subscription overview

Your subscription

The Athletic

no option to manage the the sub or cancel.

this is poor of sky not to give guidance for those of us who appreciated the free year, but want to leave before we incur subscription charges.

Re: VIP Athletic

Try an email to their official support desk at support @ theathletic.com (remove the two spaces) from the email address tied to your account. Explain exactly how and when you subscribed.
