TV package price increase without notification

I recently received an email from Sky advising my broadband would be coming up for renewal so obviously my price would increase because of reasons!!! After doing some shopping around and finding a much better deal I called Sky to cancel my broadband contract before it renewed. During the call I got the normal 'we can offer you a better deal' speach which resulted in the agent finding a deal that would give me much faster internest for the cost of my pre-renawal deal so I signed up. However, on the same call the agent advised my TV package would also be coming up for renewal at the same time as my broadband and the price would sky rocket, I asked why I hadn't been advised about this rise at the same time as receiving the broadband email to which I was told the following: Sky have made the desision not to inform customers of TV prices rises as they know this will result in a lot of upset people and they wouldn't be able to handle the influx of calls!

I jokingly asked if this was legal and didn't expect an answer. I suspected the agent wouldn't have been given a company response to telling a customer this! I raised a formal complaint with the agent and was supplied with a referrance, that was a week ago and I'm still waiting for a formal response.

Moral of the story, if you get a broadband renewal email call Sky to ask about your TV package!

Hi @jbrett80   You should have been informed of when your TV minimum term finishes, when you were sold the subscription in the first place. I have an entry in my diary. Can you see anything in the terms and conditions that say Sky has to notify you again?

@jbrett80 Sky don't currently, and never have historically reminded customers of when their TV offer is about to end. They've been in discussion with OFCOM about whether there's a need to do so for some considerable time.

Hi,  I haven't look but I suspect there probably is an entire section within the contract relating to renewal. If the price was staying the same I wouldn't have an issue, but it was increasing (as out of contract) significantly. The main issue I have is that the agent confirming Sky had made the desision to activily not contact customers about TV price increases.

I don't see a basis for a complaint.  Arguably they gave you the ultimate notice when you agreed the deal, I.e. 18/24 months.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
