Sky is expensive for what it offers

I got a call from Virgin Media -

Sky cannot offer me full fibre, unfortunately it's not set up for my house.

My street, yes, but my neighbours and me - no. Because virgin has the exchange box which previously provided the last homeowners with their internet, and my neighbours have it too.

Sky "super fast" broadband and Sky Glass costs me £72.50 a month. That's without Sports, cinema etc. only ad skipping and netflix.

Superfast broadband is a term used very loosely at Sky as the speeds are pathetic.

Virgin m500 + a tv package with sports, cinema etc.

£69.99 a month

If I wanted to upgrade to "GIG1" I could have

  • 1130Mbps average download speed
  • 104Mbps average upload speed
  • The tv package with movies, sports etc.

Which would cost me 50p more per month than the Sky package.

That's pretty bad and then Sky won't tell me how much it will cost me to get out of the contract early. For the broadband they are saying £69ish but for the tv? apparently that's a mystery.

I liked Sky, the customer service reps are great - very friendly, knowledgable but the actual service sky provides is very expensive for what you get.

Not really sure what justifies this large cost?

No justification required. It's simply Sky's price for doing business. If you can get similar services elsewhere for less, I agree that would be the way to go.

Just to add - there's no early termination charge for cancelling Sky tv early, because they don't normally permit you to.

That's very nice of them to let me out of the tv as well then.

Thanks Mark.

Hi @Jmz_x89   Was that irony, or did you not understand @Mark39 @remark?
