Scam doing the rounds.

Hi Sky, I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time tomproperly advertise the Scam currently doing the rounds offering compensation. Its very elaborate, has a Sky email account and far too many details about me in advance, has there been a leak you are not telling us about? The Scam originates in India, at a guess, offering recompense for over charging and a free Ipad 13. Its very complex and you as our supplier will obviously let all your customers know about it in advance. Perhaps an add instead of the constant Disney + one currenmtly running as it will show you really care about your customers, so thanks for doing this.

Hi @CaptainScarlett   I'm afraid that you are not talking to Sky on this public community forum. Please see Welcome below. This is a well known scam that Sky have produced a help page Account Takeover. I would look closer to home for the leak.

@CaptainScarlett I can't speak for Sky obviously (and they're unlikely to reply to your post), but I would think it highly unlikely to be the result of a data breach. I'm pretty sure providers are required to disclose the details if that happens.

This scam has been around for quite some time and I suspect is much more likely to be result of phishing and social engineering.

It sounds like a variation of the reduce your bills scam which offered a 40% discount plus a free gift.

Virginia.
I don’t work for Sky.
If I have helped then please leave a like.

That's somewhat unlikely.  Having the appearance of a legitimate email address is however standard practice for scammers.

Re: Scam doing the rounds.

I have had exactly the same scam and I agree that they seem to have far too much information. How would they know how long I have been a customer and also my exact monthly bill? This info would be held by Sky only.

...because the account has been compromised already.  (Possibly be reusing passwords across sites where such passwords have been leaked)

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
