Refund cheque - scam query

I recieved a refund statement today from Sky Subscribers Service Limited with a cheque attached

On the cheque there is a QR code.

My phone QR reader just drew a blank and other than reference numbers, there's no information at all to suggest what this refund is for.

I called Sky and asked them about it and wanted to email them a photo for potential scam information but they declined and told me to bin it.

I just want confirmation of whether or not this is a scam letter refund, and to be able to show it to someone for the protection of others.

Any thoughts..?

Hi @Daymer   Were you expecting a refund cheque? Note you should never use a mobile QR reader, only your mobile camera's native app. Scams are built in to QR reader apps.

Thanks for responding.

To be fair, no, I wasn't expecting a refund, BUT, I've had recent comms with Sky about a package changes.

What's worrying me most is that I DID scan the QR code with me QR reader - twice, because the first one didn't do anything. 🤦🏼‍♀️.What a mess.

Re: Refund cheque - scam query

Yeah, I've certainly made changes to packages and cancelled things, but probably not in the last 6 months or so. I'm just frustrated that I can't upload a photo of the cheque directly to Sky for them to confirm or deny 💁🏼‍♀️

You should have access to your previous Sky bills via the app or online here:

https://www.sky.com/bill/tv-broadband-talk

So if you go back through them do you see the mention of any outstanding credit, the reason I ask is that usually Sky will only issue a cheque if they can't issue a refund directly through a payment method and that would usually happen if it has been removed.

@Daymer  It's a bit unusual for a cheque to be a QR code, when I got a refund cheque a few months ago it was a proper cheque that I could take to the bank or scan into the banking app.

Unless it was payment link?  I've not heard of Sky doing that though.
