Sky wouldn't take money from the debit card unless you didn't have a payment method setup which the terms and conditions says you must so you can replace the card details with those from a direct debit if you want and you will be able to do that here:

Re: Need to remove my debit card details

They have taken it from my card

I stopped the direct debit because they change the date each month and I need to pay it when we have it

How can they use my debit card like that? Please

It doesn't work like that I'm afraid as we are billed monthly and if that fails with a direct debit they will try again 10 days later and if that fails they will suspend your services.

If you stopped the direct debit then Sky would use an alternative payment method if you have give them these details before.

Re: Need to remove my debit card details

But my bill is due today and they have taken it today..  I don't think its right they can use my debit card in that way

I will report my card stolen.  Then they can't do it again

If you file a report saying it is stolen when it isn't this could get you into further problems with the authorities.

The bottom line is you have to pay your bill one way or the other of you lose access to your services.

Re: Need to remove my debit card details

Haha how funny 😁 😂

How can you get in trouble for losing your card

Anyway. My bills are paid nearly everytime on time   but on my terms when I pay them.  Not when a company like sky TAKES it from my card....

You've agreed that they can.

You've also agreed to pay by direct debit or automated monthly card payment.

@Anonymous Making a false claim of loosing your card to stop legitimately owed payments is dishonest, and could be seen by your bank as a breach of trust and terms of service which could see them close your account.

You may not like it but you are contractually obliged to pay your bill on the day its due, not when you feel like it, if you don't think that part of the contract applies to you then maybe you shouldn't enter in to legally binding contracts.

Sky don't process payments at a weekend.

I don't think its right they can use my debit card in that way

Back in April it looks like you used your card to pay your mobile bill after your services were restricted. That's how Sky have the card details and are perfectly entitled to take payment from it should your normal payment method be cancelled.

I will report my card stolen.  Then they can't do it again

As stated making a false report of theft to the police is a criminal offence and could lead to a criminal record let alone the implications your bank could impose.

I have the same problem; Need to remove my debit card details

I have the same problem. I was a Sky customer for many, many years but, it became so expensive I cancelled my account. I also cancelled my direct debit on my internet banking app. I'm now in a a dispute about returned sky box and Sky said they can take money from my account because they have 'stored' my bank details on my sky account.  I've just phoned my bank and, apparently that is true. It seems if you allow any company to store your bank details they have access to funds even if you do not agree and even after you cancel your account with them. Lesson learned, I'll not be allowing any company to store bank details again. .

But you did agree when you read and accepted the terms of the contract.

That may limit who you can do business with. It's often a contractual requirement.

Re: Need to remove my debit card details

Don't you find it worrying that any company you make a contract with can store your bank details indefinatly and then, at any point in the future, even after you have cancelled theat contract and owe them nothing, they retain your bank details and are able to take funds??? Because if you think thats  OK I think you may be in a minority. My contract with Sky is finished, my account is paid, why should they retqain my bank details??

Of course, but what if you did (allegedly) owe them something?  (Such as non-return fees)
