Have sky done away with cancellation fees, I'm sure I got I was told while back that if you want to leave sky you can without any penalties

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreFor what service? For TV subscriptions, be aware that the latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they do you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term.

I definitely was told over the phone few months ago when I tried to get a small discount, and was thinking of leaving sky after 18 years, that if I wanted to leave sky, I could do, and there would be no cancellation fees.

If you are not subjected to a minimum term then you can give notice at any time - no cancellation fees.
Many people do pay 'full price' for their Sky subscription - not realising discounts are available for commiting to a fixed term.
