The automated process will attempt to collect your current bill.

I have stopped my direct debit and paying it through the app and it says I owe 0 on this months bill

We can't see your account as we're other customers here but it's a contract condition to have a continuous payment method. Dates will obviously be relevant.
Sky will likely use any card details to collect charges automatically even if you cancel your DD.
If your account is showing a credit then it does seem an unnecessary manual payment.

Ok, they do seem quite lapse with the contractual requirements - but don't be surprised if the automated system does use any payment details if requested prior to any manual payment...
I believe restrictions are applied sooner if you pay in this way - as opposed to the 10 days grace for automated payments.

I have already paid this month and they said I can pay it manually on the due date

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIf you have made a manual payment then you did not need to do this. The credit will be used to pay next months bill so going forward you do not need to make the payments as Sky will take it automatically from the payment method you have setup on your account,

Potentially yes, depending on how close to your payment date you made the manual payment. It's best to avoid manual payments.
