Sky Stream versus Sky Glass versus Sky Q

Just deciding. I'm already a long term Sky Q fan. I have a high end Panasonic Smart TV.

Views on potentially changing to Glass or Stream please.

Re: Sky Stream versus Sky Glass versus Sky Q

Unless you absolutely must have the absolute minimum number of boxes and want an all in one solution above all else, Glass is probably not worth stepping down picture quality wise from a good Panasonic display. This is leaving aside the high likelihood of Sky Glass being updated to a new model in February.

The Glass TV display is fine (and no better) for its price point and it is easy to get better without spending more. The integrated sound is better than most TVs and equavalent to a lower mid-range soundbar at best. Otherwise the operating system, user interface and performance (speed that the box works at and responds to input) is exactly the same as the Sky Stream puck. The only other advantage the TV has is hands-free voice control & search, something you need to press the microphone button on the remote handset to voice control & search the Stream puck.

Both Stream & Glass do not have local recording, instead using a bookmarking system & playlists. Some are fine with this (we watch little live TV, everything is on demand. Lots of films, zero sports), others have had issues, particularly those that want to records sports events. HD is included, unlike Sky Q, but advert skipping on Sky's content is a paid for extra, also unlike Sky Q.

If you use Sky TV on multiple TVs within the house/flat, Sky Q will do 4K & HDR on the TV the main Q box is attached to but HD maximum on any other TVs with miniboxes. Sky Stream on the other hand can do 4K on every TV in the house (with multi room and a stream puck attached to each TV). This is quite demanding on both internet speed AND a rock solid WiFi connection on each device. It's worth checking before diving in as a slow internet connection and/or sub-optimal WiFi connections will make for a frustrating, problem strewn viewing experience.

Re: Sky Stream versus Sky Glass versus Sky Q

Thank you for that comprehensive reply!

I'll wait and see what the upgraded Sky Glass has to offer. In February you say. Suppose price goes up?  I'm worried about relying on WiFi, which is often flakey.

Thanks again.

Great post from @CoffeeDrinker to which I would only that the recommended minimum broadband speed of 25Mbps. Or 30Mbps if you add an extra Sky Stream puck or to watch in UHD

That's a consistent, stable speed to the device, rather than to your router. Wifi speed at the Puck can be considerably less than the speed to your router and is susceptible to interference and instability.
