My SKY account was closed on 31 May 2025, and started service from VIRGIN

My SKY account was closed on 31 May 2025, and started service from VIRGIN

I believed on SKY, and thought they would not overcharge me, so I did not cancil DD

But they start taking money by DD from June and continued, So I cancelled DD in August. Now they are chasing me to pay them from JUne 2025

I have been requesting them to pay £64, that they took DD for June and July, I have been writing to them several times but they don't listen to me and threatening me to take action for non payment, it's very SHAME on them

@Bijaya1

What services did you cancel?

How did you cancel with Sky?

Did you receive an email from Sky acknowledging the cancellation?

You are not talking to sky on here we are all sky customers on here , but as in another post how did you cancel  your  subscription  with  and did you get a confirmation email, if you did not  get a confirmation email  then you did not cancel  your  subscription and you  will need to call sky about this

...which often isn't the best move.  If the notice hasn't been properly given then it's not a resolution.

Properly given and with a confirmation email...what is most unfair is Sky's inability to cancel a DD with less than 14 days notice. In my case they stopped my service on an agreed date but then say I will still have to pay an extra month in advance with the hope that they will refund the payment. If their system cannot manage to cancel a monetary request within the seven days that was left on my contract then it's not fit for purpose and i'm certainly not paying for something i'm not availing myself of. I will simply take this months money and deduct the credit amount for the next month and pay the difference...simples!

@Lawrence+cope Sorry your propsed action is anything but "simples"

Bulk direct debits generated by companies like Sky which involve hundereds of thousand of customers in each run are sent to Sky's bank at least 14 days before they are due so they can be processed and sent to the various customer's banks. Its not Sky are too lazy to cancel during that period they physically cannot do so.

Cancelling a direct debit mandate is almost always a bad idea. I spent 20.years running consumer advice centres before I retired where the advisors spent many hours getting customers out of the mess caused by unilaterally cancelling debits. If you have really cancelled all of your Sky products - broadband is cancelled auotomatically by thr one stop switch process but TV contracts are not covered they have to be cancelled by giving 31 days notice directly to Sky - things should be simple but your commitment  only ends when any loaned equipment has been accounted for.

Where a debit fails Sky's systems automatically places the account into default which means Sky's customer services agents are then unable to access the accoount details until that default is cleared. This in turn lead in time to  debt collection procedures. While in circumstances like yours it can be sorted out manually expect a lot of hassle while that happens. Working with the system is far easier than going against it.

As extensively explained by @Chrisee going 'your own way' may not work out the way you'd like it to...  But, of course, feel free to ignore any advice given.

Re: My SKY account was closed on 31 May 2025, and started service from VIRGIN

Yes, i'm feeling free! I was a Sky customer for almost 24 years and never missed or made a late payment to them or anyone else. I have been out of contract for years and have no equipment that they want returning and yet expect me to pay in advance for having no service to pay for. In effect they are asking me to loan them nigh on a full months payment so they can credit me in 45 days or longer looking at customers reviews here and elsewhere, so thet can do one.
As it would be my payment day today I will make a one off card payment for the difference between what they are asking for and the credit showing on my account for next month and if they take that any further any court will just laugh at them🤪.

As for advice, thanks but i'm a big boy and don't need any.

@Lawrence+cope That's not Sky, it's the Banks that can't do anything without a year's notice (slight exaggeration but you know what I mean)

As an aside they can retain those card details (as per the contract) to take payments they believe are owing.  They may not, but just be aware as the manual payment you make may not net the account as you intend.

FWIW I don't agree with the process as you note you are giving them a 'free loan' - but often is the case for many companies.

I am not in Contract...Sky ceased the contract with me after my 14 day notice for Broadband and phone and the payment came from my partners card not my own... i'm sure we would have any extra money taken paid back by our bank as an unauthorised payment as indeed it would be theft.

You will still be bound by certain terms of the contract, even after the account is 'closed'.

The term 'in contract' is an industry standard term for having minimum term discounts.

No.  The definition of 'theft' is quite specific.

You might be a superuser but consider reading up the definition of theft as it can include money taken from  a bank account without authority. The act can also constitute a fraud. I'm sure Sky would not like being cited as thieves or fraudsters....?
