Is this a scam email?

Is this a fake - looks really authentic - cursor over addresses look genuine

Verify your email address

Hi Catherine,

You’ve previously set up a Sky iD with us. We’ve introduced a new verification step to help keep your account secure, and we now need you to confirm your details.

Verifying your email protects your account and makes it easy to recover if you ever forget your password. It only takes a moment.

Your Sky team

Re: Is this a scam email?

I received a similar email today, agree it looks genuine. When I logged into my account I could find no further mention of verification

Re: Is this a scam email?

I have received this email also. When I logged into my account it said the two step verification was already on. I don't think it is a scam but just Sky's incompetence! If, when you open emails it sends you a code to enter, then the two step verification is on. They were going to close my account last year as I hadn't logged in which was untrue and when I spoke to someone I was told to ignore it!

I've just had a repeat email.  I've now blocked the email address.

Re: Request for Email confirmation is it genuine?

I have received the same email.

The from address is : "sky @ email . contact . sky" without spaces

The reply to address is : "noreply @ email . contact . sky" no spaces

and the Verify Email button goes to "https : / / t.newsletter . contact . sky/r/?id=h3f15fca0,3346c0fc,4a635c94" without the spaces

all the other links are exactly the same as above but end in 98 or 99 or 96 or 9a or 9c or 9d instead of 94

Is email from Sky genuine?

I have received an email supposedly from Sky stating "you previously set up a Sky ID. We've introduced a new verification process to keep your account secure". It is from a "sky@email.contact.sky" email address. Does anyone know if this is genuine? I've been a customer with Sky for over 25 years so my Sky ID is not new. I dont think it is but its address t9 me using my first name and grammar is good.

@kimclarke a quick look through the forum will confirm that a number of others have,received the same email.

It appears to be genuine.

Quite what has prompted them being sent and the intended action of the recipients, is unknown.

@GroovyMini

Thanks for that, however the email addresses look wrong, did you perhaps leave the .com off the end?

The link however redirects to Sky, so I am now sure the emails are genuine.

Just what it is all about I'm not sure, but I think they are trying to make sure the contact email addresses they have are correct.

Re: Request for Email confirmation is it genuine?

I agree that the email addresses look off but that's exactly how they are, without the .com

A quick google shows people asking about that exact email address for at least 5 years

@GroovyMini @jayach

That email address is a Sky one as they do use this email for communication emails.

I have asked in a closed part of this form about this email as it really isn't clear what it is about.

Re: Is this a scam email?

I too have had this email.  Whether it's authentic or not (it looks authentic) I never click on email links to verify details unless I've just set up a new account with someone and it's the verify the email address for that.  If I get a prompt when I log onto my account then yes, I'll do the necessary, but through random emails where I've had an account for ages - decades in Sky's case! When logging into my account there's nothing asking for me to verify so the email has been consigned to the trash.

Re: Request for Email confirmation is it genuine?

Thanks @caesarome , I clicked the verify link and it went to a sign in page so I signed in and just ended up at the standard Sky website, seems a very vague exercise.

Unfortunately it's still less than clear why the email was sent and what action the recipients are intended to take. Whether you use the link in the email or log in via sky.com there are no instructions to the recipients.

@GroovyMini

We are trying to get more  details from Sky about this but as you say it isn't clear why it has been sent out so we will post back if we have any more information about this.
