Verify email account scam?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Just had an email via gmail to verify one of my sky email accounts(not specified, I have two).  Body of email below.  Is this a scam? Purportably from "sky at email.contact.sky"

Verify email address

Hi

You’ve previously set up a Sky iD with us. We’ve introduced a new verification step to help keep your account secure, and we now need you to confirm your details.

Verifying your email protects your account and makes it easy to recover if you ever forget your password. It only takes a moment.

@DebLovesDisney as I posted - the email is badly worded, and gives you no obvious clue what Sky want you to do.

In fact, all you need to do is click on the link in the Answer (or go to sky.com and then your My Details) and make, sure the email address is a) up to date and b) not an '@sky.com' address.

@trevforum if it contains a link which takes you to a login screen, it's fake.

If you were to log in via that link, your username and password will be captured by a scammer/spammer to enable them to get access to your email account.

Just mark it as spam.

@trevforum

It does look like a new take on the scam emails we see asked about here so thanks for posting about this as I should imagine we will see other people asking about this.

Yes, it looks plausible.   The system wouldn't let me post the email body as I received it, but there was a Sky logo and it even had the footnotes with links to privacy policy, terms and condition etc.

Is there a email I can forward the message to for suspected scams?

@trevforum yes. See the section headed 'What to do if you get a scam call, email or text' here:

Verify your email address.

Did Sky ask all users to verify their email address today? Or is it a phishing scam.

Email verification

I have received an Email from Sky to verify my email address. I already have to go through two stage verification, via code. Is this a new verification process. I cant see anything on my account to say how to verify my address.

@mc51, @EastenderEK I've added your posts to an existing thread reporting the same thing.

Almost certainly it's an attempt to scam you into giving away your log in details. See previous replies for how to deal with it.

Request for Email confirmation is it genuine?

Received an email requesting confirmation of email, but this was set up years ago, and is used daily.

Re: Verify email account scam?

I've also received this email today. I've logged on to Sky (not via the link in email) and there is no notice asking me to confirm my details. I am therefore treating this as a phishing email and am reporting it.

Tanks for posting the image of the email. There is another thread running where people are reporting similar emails (but none of them show what the email looks like) and they are being told they are probably scams, however from the image (assuming your name is Catriona) it does look genuine. Unfortunately as it's from a mobile the required info to be certain (such as the from address) is not visible.

I would suggest logging into Sky direct (not via the link given) and see if there is anything there.

Looking at the wording, I suspect it's asking for verification of your alternative email (used for recovery purposes) rather than your Sky email address.

Was it received at your Sky address?

I agree, it does look genuine. There's a link in the email to sky.com - it would be good to know if that actually resolves to sky.com or a different site.

All - in a different thread here, another customer recieving this has posted an image of the email requesting verification. It does, unusually, look to be genuinely from Sky. I'd suggest caution.

Re: Verify email account scam?

I too have received this email request, twice now. Interestingly, it also spells my forename incorrectly, the same way that Sky doe son every email I have ever received from them, which lends a little authenticity to the email.
