So this number 08008 021 480 called me today and said they were from Sky.
Knew many details including not only personal, but the length of VIP membership, what packages I had and that I had recently removed sports and could they interest me in a deal to put it back on. Offered me a £2 discount on my Cinema package as well.
I didn't take any extra options, but did confirm my password after hearing all of the above, but now I'm wondering if I should have been a little more careful.
Google search suggests it could be a scam, but the amount of info they knew about my account is worrying if it was.

I agree!
With that said, I looked at my Sky account shortly afterwards and could see my contract period expired in line with what was just discussed, so I think it's safe to say that it was a genuine call at this stage.
I couldn't find my post at the time to update it, but your reply has provided a notification to get back to it so thanks for that.
Given the number of posts checking the outbound numbers Sky use, surely it would make sense to publish them somewhere for checking. I know some people will choose to use that data to block the calls but if they don't want to receive them, that's their choice right?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreI can't confirm the number, but it may have been a call from Sky's outbound marketing team who do call with offers. Given the details they knew about your Sky history, the call may well have been genuine. Unfortunately there's no way for you and us customers here to know for sure, unless you had taken up the offers and seen them added to your account.

I already looked on there, but I don't believe the info in there is right. Not one note I saw indicates it is a scam, they all say they are from Sky and they all had personal details. As I replied to my own post proving that my contract updated on the Sky website shortly afterwards, then I believe it to be genuine.

Nor I. It seems to be based largely on suspicion, but not much evidence. Still, it's sensible to be cautious with unsolicited calls.

I received 2 calls from this number today but I was not able to answer it but I then got in touch with Sky as I was wondering why they were calling me and they had no records of Sky trying to contact me on their system. I then gave the person on the phone the number and they said that it isn't a Sky number and it was a scam call.

The outbound marketing team are separate from the call centres and I don't believe they have access to the same systems, so it's unsurprising that there's no record in the call centres of any call from them. I remain sceptical but it's sensible to be cautious.

Just received another call from that number this time I picked up the call and spoke to the guy and I told him I called Sky before and they confirmed the number is a scam and the guy on the phone said that he is calling from the loyalty department and has offers for me and that he can confirm how long I've been with Sky for but I then told him that I will call Sky myself when I'm ready which he then hung up. I then called Sky again to speak to the loyalty team and the person from the loyalty team said that Sky does not call customers regaurding offers they wait for the customer to call them, I then went on to ask if they have any offers right now and after checking the guy told me as of right now there are no offers. I'd say the best thing to do with any company calling with "offers" is to hang up and call the company yourself, not worth taking the risk.

That's incorrect, but I agree if in any doubt, don't engage.

Yes it's genuine, I had a call from them a while back after just re-negotiating my contract, they said they were from the VIP Team and they could reduce my bill and low and behold, they did reduce my bill, again :-). Didn't ask for any debit cards etc. So for me it's legitimate.

Reading through the posts on this I have had two calls from this number on my mobile. My mobile records them as Spam. I hung up , politely but am a little confused as on the google search it shows a Sky sentence saying it is legit then piles of comments saying its not.
What is the latest view?

It's legit, had another call from this number on 6th July asking to see if they could reduce my bill! Surprise, they couldn't as they already had twice, end of call! All very polite!
