Free calls

Can anyone clarify when UK calls to a landline are free please? We have just signed up and the contract states that line rental is zero. It refers to the tariff guide but this is not clear ( deliberately?)

What are inclusive calls? Also if you phone Customer service is this chargeable? Thanks

I presume this is landline rather than mobile.

If so, check the table on the current tariff: https://static.skyassets.com/contentstack/assets/blt7f2b03fd02c7fe60/bltfb07af5c53dae3c8/67eb7ced232...

As noted, the base package has no 'inclusive' calls.  (But you can call Sky on 150 for free)

@Pete221

Any calls to Sky are inclusive. The default Sky Talk package is Sky Pay As You Talk whereby all calls are chargeable (except calls to Sky or freephone numbers). To change the tariff you'll need to call Sky by dialling 150 from your landline.

There are 4 call packages which I think are self explanatory;

Sky Talk Evenings and Weekends Extra is £8.00pm

Sky Talk Anytime Extra is £17.00pm

Sky Talk International Extra is £18.00pm

Sky Pay as you Talk - no monthly charge but no inclusive calls. You pay for all calls.

All calls to authorised customer services numbers are free.

Re: Free calls

Many thanks it's just that my wife phoned her mother for a chat on her landline and I can't see it on the bill

Note the caveat on inclusive calls only covering 1 hour...

Re: Free calls

Thanks so do you get a free hour to a landline if you are in Pat as you go. It just says 27p

No, not with the Pay as you Talk option. Every call is charged (apart from to 0800 numbers and Sky).

Just to clarify - even 'inclusive calls' become chargeable after 1 hour.  (It's a common query on the forum)

...but, as noted, without a package there are no inclusive calls to start with.

Re: Free calls

Thank you for clarifying this. The tariff guide is ambiguous in parts. So even if we get a package with inclusive calls you only get one hour. I don't think the Curry's guy who sold it knew this. I have just moved from Virgin  who had terrible customer service and overall Sky is better. My wife is not happy though as her one hour plus calls are no longer free as they were with Virgin. To remedy this will cost £18 per month. I will be taking this up with Curry's as the  Sky package was misrepresented at the point of sale. Thanks again

@Pete221

Just cancel the call on 55+ minutes and dial again.

Re: Free calls

Thanks I will need to get a package though as they are all charged on Pay as you talk. My wife phoned her mother during the day so I reckon I will need to pay an extra £18 per month. So not the bargain I thought it was as Virgin was free. The wife can use her Fitbit to check she doexmsnt go over 55 minutes! Thanks for your help

Yup, even the tariff tells you to hang up and call again before the hour is up...  (A hassle but there you go)

@Pete221

I'd note that Virgin Broadband also has Evening & Weekend / Anytime / International add-ons.  If you had 'free' calls then you were paying a higher baseline cost to start with.
