Debt

Hi, 

I had sky glass and came out of contract. I still have the tv at the minute and I have debt collectors saying I owe £££ because I still have the tv. I've never once been contacted to returned it. Who can I contact to get this tv returned and my debt reduced?

@Unknown88  You would not return the TV if you cancel your TV subs as the TV is yours, if you got it on credit then it sounds like you also stopped paying your credit agreement too?

That being the case Sky are right to chase you for the credit agreement payments.

@Unknown88 you can't return the tv. Sky don't want it back.

If you bought the tv on credit from Sky you have to continue making repayments until the loan is repaid - typically 48 months or more. 

Your viewing contract (Sky Signature, Ultimate etc) is completely separate. Even if you cancel your viewing package, you're still responsible for paying off the purchase loan.

You've owned the television from the start: part of the monthly payment reduces the balance of the unsecured personal loan used to purchase it.  If you chose a four year repayment period then it's entirely possible that a minimum term content subscription has finished while there's still half of the loan payments yet to be made.

The set is not returnable outside the first month 'cooling off' period: it isn't rented, hired or on hire-purchase.  You can choose to sell it and make a lump sum payment to reduce the balance further, but be aware second-hand Glass sets don't have much value.

You could plug in an aerial for free-to-air digital terrestrial television reception, attach a Freesat (if you have a dish) or  Freeview receiver over HDMI, a Freely streaming box, Apple TV hardware, a Firestick, EE TV, Virgin...

The Glass operating system and UI itself is fundamentally designed to be a platform for Sky subscription television consumption though, which should have been clear before you signed the contract and loan agreement.

@Unknown88 As your account has been passed to a debt collections company your only real option is to negotiate an affordable repayment plan with them. You should have fully read and understood the agreement you signed up for when purchasing the TV.
