On the contrary, if Sky had sold you a single contract on terms similar to your TV contract, you'd have no option to leave either service As it is, you can leave your broadband contract without penalty..

Thanks for that  . . . . right now I am feeling lke I have been 'conned,'  it seems to me that signing me up to BB and TV as separate entities was done to make my 'switching' life more difficult when they increase prices and that makes me angry enough to get out (hopefully not from the frying pan to the fire).  Prior to November I has been with Virgin for 10+ years and they increased prices but not less than 4 months after I joined!

Virgin do it too, anyone who joined recently (up to the end of February) will be hit by their April price increase, potentially just a month after signing up.

Re: Contract Broken ?

After weeks of haggling with Virgin and then switching I am so sick of all this I just want out and I will just watch free TV

Re: Contract Broken ?

New day and I start with looking to move to the best deal and prominet on the list of choices is Sky and the price is less than I am paying now (less than I am paying from day 1 of this contracxt which is not 3 months old) but as we all know (as I knw from the letter got yesterday we are in thie lunatic world where I look for the deal, see the deal and its a 2 year contract deal but know that within weeks of signing up for that 2 year deal they break that deal (cntract) by icreasing the price.  It's madness, how  can the law / the regulators allow this?

Because the terms of the 2 year contract you agreed to allow for an annual April price increase.

You appear to be confusing it with a fixed-price contract, which Sky don't offer.

What you're no doubt seeing is the price of joining as a new customer, which you are not.

but as we all know (as I knw from the letter got yesterday we are in thie lunatic world where I look for the deal, see the deal and its a 2 year contract deal but know that within weeks of signing up for that 2 year deal they break that deal (cntract) by icreasing the price.  It's madness, how  can the law / the regulators allow this?

Regulations allow the one price increase per year so if someone joins in June for example, they won't see an increase until April 2026 and then again in April 2027.

Are you suggesting that the law allows them to break the contract (on their side) once a year without it breaking the contract for both?  That surely is conrary to the law of contracts?

But they aren't breaching the contract.  The contract explicitly allows for the increase.

Re: Contract Broken ?

I also note that in my search for 'deals' the Sky deal is shown as a package (BB and TV).  It is at the very least deceiving when I later find that I have two contracts (one for each)..  Again, contract law is all about distinct clarity and surety.

I am moving towards a compaint to the ombudsman, I presume before they will accept my complaint I must first put that compaint to Sky p how do I do that?  (I suspec that Sky will make that difficult for me e.g. I must put a stamp o a letter and post it OR pay for recorde delivery)?

Re: Contract Broken ?

If the contract allows for one increase a year and that does not 'break' the contract, they could increase the price by £1,000 and (according to what you say) we would have to pay it.

We're suggesting that multi-billion dollar corporations traditionally have entire departments of lawyers to make sure their contracts cover such things...

@FortyTwo2 No they couldn't and thats not what is being said either. You are overly fixated on there being a breach of contract, and that shows you either don't understand/didn't bother reading the contract you agreed to or you won't accept that Sky are not doing anything wrong.

There is no "break or breach" of contract happening due to the increase in the TV subscrpitions, keep on banging the same drum about "breaks/breaches" won't change that fact.

Re: Contract Broken ?

I have just called Sky (helpful chap) who understood my frustration and re-iterated what was said on here about the regulators wllowing up to 10% price increase once a year in April BUT agreed that as I am 'streaming' and the BB and TV is totally tied in I can leave (the broken contract (both contrac ts)) without penalty.   He also revelaed that there is a letter in the post telling me that the TV package price is going up by £6.

@FortyTwo2

No, as @PandJ2020 has rightly pointed out there is no breach of contract.

@FortyTwo2 I think the customer service agent you spoke to is very much incorrect, the 2 services are not tied together in anyway(you don't pay one price for both) and yet again the terms and conditions of your Sky stream service allow for an increase so no break or breach has happened.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if you do cancel that you receive early termination fees from Sky stream.
