Complaint

Hi someone stole my identity and opened a sky account and used it. This was around 5 years ago, I thought I had dealt with this but every year the debt collectors contact me and demand payment. No one in sky can help me unless I have a sky account, I do not. My understanding if my personal data is no longer needed under GDPR legislation my details should have been deleted. This has not been done because i keep being passed to a debt collection agency. Who at sky can deal with this?

The right to deletion is not absolute.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

this page has contact details for data protection queries at Sky https://www.sky.com/help/articles/privacy-hub-home

However I would write to the address in the following link setting out why you are disputing this debt with details of a/c numbers dates etc and requesting Sky to confirm it is a case of stolen identity How to make a Sky complaint | Sky Help | Sky.com

Send a copy of that letter to the debt collector companies quoting their reference numbers. Debt collectors often buy outstanding  debts from companies at a discounted rate and then legally it is the debt collectors you owe money to.
