Cancellation - Box return?

Hi, I've just cancelled Sky after 23 years. I've never watched tv any other way. If I paid to keep my Sky box - it's the 1TB Q box - can I use this to watch free channels, BBC etc? Just deciding if it's worth calling to ask and paying the £117 to keep it or if I should just buy a set top freeview box? Thanks in advance 😃

You cannot keep it without a subscription.

Even if you paid the non-return fee it will be an expensive brick.  (And you still don't own it)

You need a freesat 4K box if you want to use the dish.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

@Helenk7611  The only way you could keep it is to downgrade to the Q essentials package which will give you access to the FTA channels and recording/playback functionality but only for the duration of that subscription
