Canceling sky broadband without account holder

I am looking to cancel the sky broadband but the person who was the account holder has moved out of the house and we have no way of contacting him. We are not being allowed to cancel but we are still being charged. How can we fix this as it is now my bank account that is paying g for this.?

@Stephenba

What you've been told is correct. Only the account holder can cancel. You only option might be to cancel your payment method. Sky would restrict the service and chase the account holder for arrears albeit that may start with attempted contact at your address.

@Stephenba  I concur with @Daniel0210, however the only downside is that you won't be to open a new account in your name should you wish to at the same address whilst the account is still active

If it is your payment details on the account and you have access to the login details to the account then if you remove the payment details Sky will make contact with the account holder to ask them to reinstate them. Of course all this will take time and they might suspend the broadband in the meantime so there is no easy answer to this if you have no longer got any contact with them.

@Stephenba

Remember the account holder is responsible for returning all loaned equipment to Sky.

@Stephenba you're in a difficult position and one we've seen numerous times here before. If you remove your payment details, the account will become in arrears and shortly after, restricted, and you'll have no broadband service. The accountholder is responsible for the arrears, but if their address isn't on the account, Sky will have difficulty tracking them down to sort it out and it will take time. The account will eventually be closed by Sky, but they'll probably refuse any new broadband service request on the basis that it's an address associated with a bad debt.

I don't know if you're able to switch to another provider while there's an unpaid debt tagged on the line. Might be something to investigate.

Much simpler, obviously, if you're able to find a way of contacting the accountholder and getting them to cancel
