Boils down to sky being greedy! Not irrelevant! They should be offering contracts much the same as the first contract!

  My contract expires on 19th yet sky expect me to pay double for same contract WHY? It is they are being greedy!

Except that isn't the way the industry works. Typically new broadband deals are quite costly to an ISP, with them either breaking even or making very minimal profit on them at all.  By all means the industry standard could change but that would likely be to the detrement of consumers as the cheaper new customers deals would go, everyone would end up paying more and there would be little incentive ( or savings) for consumers to regularly switch their providers every 18-24 months.

@Brandy

Better discounts are offered to new customers as an incentive for them to join.

If you choose to leave and go with another provider then in 18/24 months you'll be in the same position with that provider and if you want you'll be able to return to Sky as a new customer and get the benefits at the time.

Look at OpenReach's wholesale costs - they are not a secret.
