April Sky price increases.

Sky claim that the average price rise in April will be 6.2%. I've looked at my future billing and found that my price rise will be 12%. I cannot see how an average of 6.2% comes from this; the maths doesn't work. It would be good to see other Sky customers price rises.

The maths work fine. The average is calculated from the standard list price, across all services not the discounted price you're paying if you're 'in contract'.

It can't be done any other way, because there's no standard discount.

@ChrisEB  it's important to note that increases are relevant to the full list price not any discounted amount you may pay

therefore the amount of increase a customer pays may well be higher than the average increase in the press release

Re: April Sky price increases.

My undiscounted price increases are: 7% (broadband), 9.6% (stream), 10% (sky sports) and 3.3% (TNT sports). Again this doesn't average to 6.2%. The maths cannot do that.

Yes but that is just for you. Don't forget their are various broadband packages so the list price percentage increase will differ on each package. Also there are numerous other TV packs that a person could be additionally subscribed to and you also have the difference betwen the Sky streaming packs and prices and the Sky Q offering.

Re: April Sky price increases.

I would like to see the calculations that lead to 6.2%. Sky should show full transparency to their users particularly on such an issue.

Call them and ask for it?  They are under no obligation to provide it though.

Hi @ChrisEB   To be clear, so Sky has told you that the increase is 6.2% and you are not getting that figure from any other source.

Re: April Sky price increases.

After nearly 30 years as a customer myself I've decided enough is enough. I went through the cancellation process a couple of weeks ago. I was offered a slight price reduction but given that would rise in April it wasn't worth it as it would take me back above what I'm paying now.

The advisor talked about losing Sky VIP benefits but aside from the odd free movie I've never been able to benefit from them at all due to my location.

I accept a company has to raise prices from time to time but this seems a bigger than necessary raise given the inflation rate and the whole cost of living crisis we have in the UK.
