What I do is go forward 4/5 minutes and if I end up at the program, I RW until I exit the program and then let it go from there. That's for most recorded programs.
yes one of the advantages of SKY Q is voice control - Skip 4 minutes is very handy (although it can vary by channel) 🙂

I don't like using the voice control to skip just 4 minutes. I prefer to use the buttons.

I really do understand how SUBSCRIPTION TV works.
But sky is making vast profits.

By making programs unwatchable to paying customers.
It's abusing its customer base.

Worth noting the figures in billions are for revenue, not profit.
It was not all good news, however. Sky’s adjusted EBITDA* fell 25.3% to $560M in Q2, while its total customer relationships decreased by 248,000 to 23.2M. It marks a trend of customer contraction under Comcast, as streamers continue to make inroads into the wallets of TV audiences.
*earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization

Don't forget people unsubscribing to Sky because of covid cuasing job losses or a lower income.

I'm just sick of the same adverts multiple times a day...for instance that ANNOYING SKY VIP one... I'm sure if people want that, they know how to get it by now,and the other one is the stupid amateurish Verisure alarm. I do record most of what I want, but occasionally watch other programs as they appear.

You don't have to watch them. Make a cup of tea, have a comfort break, distract yourself, check your email.... The possibilities are endless.

The very fact that you remember what the annoying adverts are for means that they are working.

It is only after 3 or 4 presses of the button, I realise why nothing happens

Every morning I go to the programmes I've recorded the day before & then queue them up so they're ready to watch later, past the ads & even past the annoying bit at the beginning where they show you what they're going to be showing you. I've also found that " skip 4 minutes " by voice control works almost perfectly on Ch4.

Duhh....
Pay TV: you don't see adverts. (Amazon, Netflix etc etc).
Free TV: You watch adverts which pays for the service.
Sky model: You Pay (really expensive) AND you get 5 min of adverts every 15 mins.
Do you believe the baloney about making the cost lower?
Then why is Sky reaping vast profits for shareholders?
(Revenue not headed for the customer's cost reduction.)
Do you work for Sky?

Totally different, 21st century, global scale business models. Remember satellite television is a regionalised (typically national) 1990s product with huge legacy infrastructure to pay for.
Then why is Sky reaping vast profits for shareholders?
Because that's quite literally its job, and presumably why Comcast thought it was worth acquiring.
Do you work for Sky?
Sky employees are clearly identified.
Eventually the subscription streamers may well kill off both 'free' and 'pay' television, like digital photography killed Kodak (or steam railway killed canal freight transport). That's the way things go.
