Does your new PC have the app needed to open the attachments? For example you may need Adobe Reader for pdf attachments, or a compatible editing app for Word (.doc) attachments.

Re: Attachments on Yahoo

I have MS Office 2023  Word installed as part of Office . The document that I cannot open is a docx, which I understood was the same as a word document (The document was sent to me as a Word document. Sorry, I'm not at all computer literate.

You should also be able to access your email account here:

https://skyid.sky.com/signin/email/

So see if you can get the attachment loaded up here instead.

Yes, a docx file extension does relate to a Word document and should automatically launch Word when you click on the attachment. What happens when you try?

That seems unlikely, how are you viewing your emails? Web or App?

Re: Attachments on Yahoo

It may seem unlikely, but that's exactly how it is . This is on my laptop so it's web mail. I can open the same attachment with Yahoo mail on my Samsung tablet which is an app.

So is this what you see when you receive the email, and hovering over/clicking on the attachment does nothing?

Re: Attachments on Yahoo

The attachment just shows a link with a docx after it.

Sorry, I'm not capable of taking it further. Tried to copy and save the link then open it but a dialoge box came up saying I couldn't open it . Something about my windows security settings and that it was a .odt file ?

Re: Attachments on Yahoo

OK, it seems that my Google Docs was missing. I downloaded it again and tried to save the attachment. I was able to download it but got a message warning of some sort, about downloading it. I ignored it and saved it in My Docs. I was then able to open it as a word doc immediately. Not sure how it happened but it seems ok. I get one of these attachments from the same source monthly soI will have to wait and see.
