Sky Broadband Superfast just isn't fast enough anymore!

Hi all,

 

I've been with Sky since it's inception, and had the broadband superfast since it started.

 

Unfortunately now with working from home (a few family members) it would appear that 'superfast' just isn't fast enough, and we are getting buffering, drop-outs, basically a really poor service.

 

I thought I would upgrade to full fibre but at times it says its unavailable, and at other times it wont take my upgrade order online. Ironically I note full fibre is currently cheaper than I pay but to be honest i'd just like a reliable fast service primarily.

 

I'm having trouble getting through to a human to answer my enquiry - anyone got any advice please?

Thanks for your interest - when I copy the resultant check page it wont let me post it to this reply panel. 

 

Any advice or anything in the result I should be specifically looking for?

The key line would be the first one under the speed table:

 

'FTTP is not available'

@raf3561  At present full Fibre or Ultrafast isn't available to your address.    Until Openreach lay new fibre cables you'll be stuck with your current service.

 

The only other option is is an Altnet provider such as CityFibre, Virgin Media or some other provider brings full fibre to your area.

What does FTTP stand for? I'm guessing full fibre?

FTTP (Fibre to the premise) is full fibre or as some providers call it Ultrafast.

Fibre To The Premises, so, yes, 'full fibre'

 

As an aside, FTTPoD is Fibre To The Premises on Demand where the customer pays the full cost (typically tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds) for a unique connection from their address to the nearest fibre cabinet.

The table indicates better than average FTTC at the address, so the place to concentrate is distributing Hub speed around the property as efficiently as possible: ethernet is best, then possibly Powerline networking.

If you have the Sky Q hub then yes a new hub would probably improve things. You could either subscribe to broadband boost to get the newer 'Sky Broadband Hub' or buy a 3rd party router of your own.
