It's most likely that Comcast (which owns both NBC Universal and Sky Group) took the decision on economic grounds.
Providing news coverage is typically very expensive for a tiny audience share, and it's particularly costly to run a parallel service which meets the strict UK Broadcasting Code alongside one intended for a US audience.

"Discussed here at length"?
I did not see any "reason" given or explained.

However i wouldn't be surprised if at some point in 2024 we see Sky News simulacasting NBC News Now in the early hours of the morning, similar to how NBC News Now simulcasts a bit of Sky News every day in an effort to reduce costs,

News channels lose money: if Comcast decided not to do so on two different outlets, that's up to them.
Even the continuation of Sky News isn't a given.
