Why are announcers give F1 racing results & live positions on the Football channel during games.

Why are live F1 racing & position updates being shown on the football channel during games. People like me will be wanting to watch the race afterwards as I'm recording it. That's the beauty of having a recordable box. Stop spoiling my viewing.

This subject has been posted about quite a bit over recent years and dispite that, and possibly customers emailing the Viewer Relations Team, Sky continue to do it so I think it's a decision from on high in my opinion.

Thank you.

However, it's still not right. Who is bigger, Sky or the Subscribers. Just a thought.

Unwelcome updates

Getting frustrated that the premier league channel is showing live updates from sky F1 channel. Ruins the idea of recording one channel whilst watching the other

This message was authored by: LUKESKYWATCHER

if i wanted to see it, id have it on (F1) ?

trying to watch football with a dirty big race track or an advert for it splashed accross the screen, whats the point ?, if i (we) were  interested, we would have it on !

I have moved your post into a thread already discussing this practice.

I'm not sure why people are still suprised by this. Sky have been doing this for years, and whilst they have seemingly dropped the "Its only live once" tag from marketing you can clearly tell that their opinion is still that big sporting event should be watched live.

The likely reason is that big live sporting events are literally the only thing that brings in any decent advertising revenue for companies anymore, due to it typically being the only content that generates decent live TV  ratings in the current landscape.

Re: Why are announcers give F1 racing results & live positions on the Football channel during ga

Subject: Formal Complaint — Formula One Spoiler Displayed on Sky Home Screen

Dear Sky Customer Service,

I am writing to raise a formal complaint regarding an unacceptable experience on my Sky Q system today, relating to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix — the Formula One season finale and World Championship decider.

Having deliberately avoided all media and communications throughout the day to prevent any spoilers before watching the race replay, I logged into my Sky Q box this evening only to find the home screen displaying a large promotional tile featuring Lando Norris with the word “Champion” emblazoned across it.

This was positioned prominently on the right-hand side of the Sky home screen (screenshot attached), leaving me with no opportunity to avoid seeing it. In effect, Sky itself spoiled the outcome of one of the most significant sporting events of the year.

Given Sky’s exclusive broadcasting rights to Formula One in the UK, I find this astonishingly careless. It represents:

A complete failure to respect customers who rely on delayed viewing due to work or personal commitments

A disregard for the viewing experience of paying subscribers

An avoidable and entirely unnecessary spoiler published by the platform that is supposed to deliver the content

As a long-standing customer and Formula One fan, I am extremely disappointed by this breach of trust. I expect:

1. A formal apology from Sky

2. An explanation as to how such a spoiler was allowed to be published on the Sky Q home screen

3. Appropriate compensation for the impact on my viewing experience and the failure of service expectations

I look forward to receiving your response as a matter of priority.

Yours faithfully,
Sean Garnham

@Sean+G1

You aren't talking to Sky here and that isn't the way to make a complaint. Certainly with your points 1 & 3 I can't see Sky responding favourably to you. Point 3 would be unrealistic.

I'm aware this isn't direct to Sky, the complaint as you read it has been submitted.  This is for others info.

Come on Sky… F1 results right on the homepage?

I wanted to flag something that really killed me off today...

I’d saved the F1 race to watch later and avoided spoilers everywhere. I didn’t open Sky Sports or any sports pages. But when I opened Sky on my TV, the homepage immediately showed an image revealing the winner. I’ve attached the image and you can see - there was no way to avoid seeing it!

It completely ruined the race I’d been looking forward to. The whole season down to this moment! Gone in a second.

I understand big events get promoted, but putting results on the first screen means anyone watching on delay has no chance at all. It feels like something Sky could easily rethink, especially for major sporting finals.

Has anyone else had this happen, and is there any chance Sky might reconsider how these results are displayed?

Hi @Rolo26   You are adding to it, why did you not use the spoiler tag on the image (if it does get approved).

Spent all day avoiding it, no tv, whatsapp, avoiding everything... login to sky stream and my enjoyment is all ruined. Furious. May as well go the piracy route as the service is better and this wouldn't have happened.

Re: Come on Sky… F1 results right on the homepage?

I did use the correct route and I’ve already logged this with the Sky complaints team so it’s recorded properly.

They sent me a private upload link for the images, which I’ve shared with them. Posting here is just to highlight the issue so other customers can add their experiences too.

The more visibility it gets, the more chance it has of being looked at.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Why are announcers give F1 racing results & live positions on the Football channel during ga

You’re absolutely right, and this is exactly why I’m so frustrated too. I’ve spent the whole season avoiding spoilers so I could watch races properly on delay, and having the finale ruined on the homepage makes the entire year feel pointless.

I’m honestly at the point where I’m reconsidering whether Sky is worth it for F1 now. If I can’t rely on the platform to let me watch the biggest race of the year without the result being forced into my face, it really undermines the value of the service for me.

I’m hoping Sky actually take this seriously, because it’s an easy fix and clearly affecting more than just one or two people.
