Losing tv signal several times a day. Tv programs freeze internet streaming programs freeze and then lose connection. I have to turn off and restart each time and then it works again. This is happening more often

That sounds incredibly frustrating — especially when you’re having to reboot multiple times a day just to get things working again.

A few things you might want to check:

Signal Strength & Quality (for Sky Q or satellite users):
Go to Settings > Signal and check if the strength and quality are consistently low. If they are, there might be an issue with your dish alignment or cabling.

Broadband Stability (for streaming content):

  • Even if your broadband seems fine on other devices, the Sky box could be dropping its Wi-Fi connection. If possible, try using an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi for a more stable connection. You will need to rename your Router, as the Sky device will still try to connect to WiFi even with an Ethernet cable.
  • Overheating or Hardware Faults:
If the box feels very hot, or if it’s been in use for several years, there could be a hardware issue developing. A replacement might be needed.

Software Update:
Make sure your box is fully up to date. You can check this via Settings > System Info > Software Version and force an update if needed.

Contact Sky Support:
Since the issue is recurring more frequently, it might be worth calling or chatting with Sky so they can run remote diagnostics and possibly send an engineer if needed.

@Marlu-Nyu Why would the router need to be renamed? If plugging in an ethernet cable to a sky device the solution would be to disable the Wifi on that sky device in the settings to force it to use the ethernet connection.

Without renaming the WiFi, the Sky device will still connect to it, even if connected to Ethernet cable. The WiFi is preferred on the Sky device.

This happened to me. I have at least 10 devices (security cameras, plug sockets, phones, laptops, gaming consoles, Freesat box, dishwasher) connected to my WiFi.

I found when viewing streaming services like Disney+ on Sky Q was sluggish at best. So I tried connecting to the Ethernet cable, and setting up the connection settings to use Ethernet, but it constantly reverted back to using WiFi after about 30 minutes, even if I didn't want it to.

The only way I got the Sky Q to stick to using Ethernet is to rename the WiFi router. Then it can't connect to WiFi and forces it to use the Ethernet cable. I do find the Ethernet much faster for streaming.
