Re: TV picture problems

If your Sky Q Mini box is on the correct HDMI input but there's no picture on the screen, here are a few things you can try to get it working again:

1. Check the Power and Standby Light

  • Make sure the Mini box is plugged in and powered on.

  • You should see a red or amber standby light on the front — press the Sky button on the remote to wake it up.

  • If there’s no light at all, try a different socket or check the power lead.

2. Re-seat the HDMI Cable

  • Unplug the HDMI cable from both ends (Mini box and TV).

  • Plug it back in firmly and make sure it’s in the correct HDMI port on the TV.

  • Try a different HDMI cable or port if available — faulty cables are a common cause.

3. Input Source Confirmation

  • Double-check that your TV is actually on the correct HDMI input. Sometimes TVs label ports differently (e.g. HDMI 1 vs HDMI 1 ARC).

  • Cycle through the inputs using the TV remote to confirm.

4. Restart the Mini Box

  • Switch the Mini box off at the wall.

  • Wait about 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

  • Wait a few minutes — the box might take time to reconnect to the main Sky Q box.

5. Check Main Sky Q Box Connection

  • The Mini box needs to be connected to the main Sky Q box via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

  • If the main box is off or the connection is down, the Mini won’t show anything.

  • On the main box, press Home > Settings > Status to check for connectivity issues.

6. Try Resolution Reset (if you see a black screen)

  • With the Mini box powered on, press and hold down ‘1’ and ‘0’ together on the Sky remote for 10 seconds — this forces a resolution reset.

  • The box should default to 576p or 720p, which may bring back a picture.

If you’ve tried all of that and it’s still not working, it might be worth contacting Sky directly or booking an engineer — especially if the box has no power or seems faulty.

Hope that helps! Let us know how you get on 😊

@Marlu-Nyu You are guessing that "mini TV" means a Sky Q mini box, the OP does not specify Sky Q and could easily be talking about the Mini TV preview on a Sky+ system

It is always better to get clarification from the OP before answering as you may be wasting your time and effort if your guess it wrong

BTW there are still plenty of Sky+ boxes in use so are not as rare as you think

@Annie+UK  I understand where you're coming from, but given the mention of “HDMI” input, it's reasonable to assume the OP may be referring to a Sky Q Mini box, especially as the mini TV preview doesn't involve HDMI input selection in the same way.

While Sky+HD is still in use, current figures (e.g. from sources on the Wikipedia article on Sky Q) suggest Sky Q is by far the more common platform, with around 60% of Sky's 13.4 million UK and Ireland customers, approximately 8 million people, using Sky Q. That puts the likely number of remaining Sky+HD users at under 134,000. Still significant, of course, but much smaller by comparison.

That said, you're absolutely right that clarification from the OP is the ideal first step. I just try to offer a helpful response based on the information at hand.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure why you've chosen to single out my replies like this, especially as this is now the second time you've done so on separate posts. I'm doing my best to help with the knowledge I have, and I don't think it's fair to be called out for trying to assist. If you believe the OP is referring to something else, such as the mini TV on-screen, by all means share that perspective. Two potential answers would be better than one, and the OP can then decide which is relevant to their situation.

At the end of the day, we're all here to help each other, I just ask that that spirit of collaboration applies to everyone.
