Ref Watch: Dermot Gallagher - time to go
The whole point of the programme Ref Watch is to present a dispassionate analysis of the major (especially debatable) decisions from the weekend's matches. The key word in that statement is 'dispassionate' and, in my opinion, Dermot Gallagher is not.
He most certainly fulfils other requirements for the role admirably. He is a highly experienced, top-level referee, his knowledge is undoubtedly up-to-date and his communication skills are excellent.
The problem, which constantly frustrates me, the presenter, guest ex-pros and, no doubt, the majority of regular viewers, is that he Is too wedded to whatever decision was made by the officials at the time and far too reluctant to say when they get it wrong. Dermot sees his job on RefWatch as explaining why the match officials (including the VAR team) have arrived at the decisions they have and is extremely reluctant to offer any criticism. He is only prepared to offer his own opinion forthrightly when it concurs with the officials at the time.
So my point about Dermot not being dispassionate is nothing to do with bias, towards or against, any particular clubs or players. I've never detected any such thing. However, his unwillingness to criticise decisions made during matches totally undermines the point of RefWatch as a show. If he cannot find it in himself to critique refereeing decisions dispassionately then it's time to find another ex-official who is.

@Simon+Mounsey He does disagree occasionally, but if the onfield ref and VAR have together reached a particular decision then it stands to reason that a third ref will most likely be of the same opinion.

Re: Ref Watch: Dermot Gallagher - time to go
It's incredibly rare for Dermot to disagree with any decision and that undermines the value of the programme.
In stark contrast, Mike Dean, a similarly highly experienced ex-official has to make comments in real time on Soccer Saturday, often while an on-field decision is being considered by VAR. He calls it as HE sees it and doesn't bend over backwards not to disagree with the match officials.
Also in marked contrast to Dermot, Howard Webb, Head of the PGMOL, will regularly acknowledge that officials have made errors during the monthly programme "Match Officials Mic'd Up". Howard gets the balance right between explaining and supporting the match officials and openly ackowledging when they make mistakes. Dermot is too prone to defending the indefensible.

Three major decisions Dermot disagreed with this week.

I wasn't able to watch today - I'll catch up later. I emailed Viewer Relations as well as posting my thoughts here and, to their credit, I got a reply to say my comments would be sent to the show producers.

Re: Ref Watch: Dermot Gallagher - time to go
Agree totally that Dermot Gallagher almost always agrees with referee and VAR decision. When he is pressed for his opinion he invariably doesn't give one, he just refers back to the officials decision. Also he continually highlights his lack of empathy with the players playing the game. Last week he referred to Man United's Hojlund wrestling with Man City's Haaland ' As two players holding one another ' when in fact one was fouling ( Hojlund ) and the other ( Haaland ) was trying to get free from a player deliberately holding and obstructing him. The referee bottled the decision due to fact if he'd given the foul Hojlund would of been booked, which would of been his second yellow card.

Re: Ref Watch: Dermot Gallagher - time to go
It just locked like a random blank mark on the studio floor - which you often see as they are used by crew.
But when his 10yd was exactly on the mark - when he could have been slightly out or even taken a slightly different direction - it was too obvious it was set up.
