Fed up with crossovers

Just sat down to watch this weeks episode of law & order svu, season 27 episode 9. Only to realise that it's part of a crossover with law & order season 25. I'm sure crossovers are great in America, where they're broadcast back to back, as they should be. They're absolutely pointless anywhere outside the states, where each show is broadcast on a different network at different times. Given 5usa has not long finished season 24 of law & order, it'll probably be awhile before season 25 airs.

I watched this yesterday and for a minute I thought I had managed to miss an episode then quickly released without going online that this was a crossover episode which thanfully doesnt happen that often with SVU.

Sky UK don't seem care about show consistency, Law & Order should be on Sky anyway (like it is in Italy from 26th July) even more so from next year when Sky and NBC Universal are more closely aligned.

To think in 2008 , 2 different broadcasters  Channel 4 and Channel 5 scheduled Without A Trace and CSI crossover one after the another on the same day.

Yeah, crossover episodes are a pain when the programmes are on rival networks, but that's not Sky's fault per se.  However, why they don't pay for first-run UK rights to LAW & ORDER, I just don't know.  It would breed a lot of positivity from UK fans, and would make viewer's lives easier too.  Moreso when 5USA only broadcast the show in Standard Definition, and you have to download the week's episode in order to watch it in High Def!  Utterly mad!

That said, in the USA, at the start of these crossovers, there's an on-screen title card that states something along the lines of:

"This is Part 2 of a 2-part crossover.  To watch Part 1, you need to watch LAW & ORDER Season 18, Episode 4" (or whichever show/season you need to view), which is a real godsend.  Sadly, these on-screen title cards are removed in the UK, mostly because the other show is often on a rival broadcaster, so they don't want to promote the other channels.  This leaves viewers befuddled if they aren't aware the episode they're about to watch is a crossover, or aren't aware that the other episode is from another series on a rival channel.

No wonder so many people just watch stuff online these days.  It just makes life so much easier!
