Accessing Netflix while on holiday

I'm trying to watch Netflix while I'm away on holiday in Spain, but when trying to sign in it says email address and password not recognised, can anyone help?

I think this was answered previously. I think if you're from the UK, you can only watch Netflix in the UK. However, if you're from Ireland, you can watch streaming content throughout Europe from your home country.

Also, the Netflix.com you are trying to access is probably the Spanish version, not the UK/Ireland version.

Have a look at the below for more info::
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/viewing-sky-content-in-the-eu-faqs
(Note, link may bring you to your home country's Sky site and may have different information for the UK and for Ireland)

As I'm in Ireland, the link says I can watch Sky in the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Republic of Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France, including French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion and Saint Martin.
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal, including the Azores and Madeira.
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain, including the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands.
  • Sweden

However, it says I cannot watch Sky in the UK as the UK is outside of the EU.

At the link above, one can click the flag on the bottom right of the page to change country information.

The UK version of the page says:
"You can still use Sky Go in the UK, just like you do now.
You’re not entitled to access streamed content outside the UK through Sky Go, Sky Sports, and Sky Kids, but some of our apps will let you download and save shows over WiFi before you leave home so you can watch them offline when abroad.

This is because there are certain EU rules which mean people in the EU can use online content services across all EU countries. As the UK is no longer part of the EU, we are not able to provide this service in the same way.

This affects lots of online videos, music, and entertainment services, not just Sky.

The Netflix information page says "Using a VPN to access Netflix will hide your region and only allow you to see TV shows and movies available to all regions globally." Source:  https://help.netflix.com/en/node/119024

Also, a lot of streaming services now block disallow IPs from VPNs, e.g. BBC, ITV, STV, etc., so it's unlikely to work for Sky.

Netflix is a separate streaming app to Sky Go

@PaulRob

What username and password are you using as it should be the one you created to access your Netflix account.

Refers to the likes of the Sky Go and Sky Sports apps which can be viewed in the EU if you are an Ireland customer and for the rest you are unable to as you point out. Netflix and whether it can or can't be viewed is nothing to do with this as it isn't a Sky branded app.

When out of the country where the service was subscribed to, Netflix offers either the local options or its 'international' catalogue of content which isn't specifically regionally licensed.

When watching outside of the country you signed up for Netflix in, you might experience small differences to:

Selection of TV shows and movies: Choices for streaming and downloading (including audio/subtitle options) vary by country.

If you are traveling to a country outside of the European Union, your available choices may be different. For countries within the European Union, we provide the same content as your home country for a limited period of time. Also, My List and Continue Watching titles may not be available.

Yes, I'm fully aware. As this is a Sky forum and not a Netflix forum, I added details for Sky. Netflix questions should be put into a Netflix forum.
