continual issues with service from sky - will not be renewing contract next month. When last fault said lines are checked regularly but here we are again trying to get resolved

If it's an Openreach issue then moving your Talk and Broadband to another isp who uses the Openreach infrastructure is unlikely to make a noticeable difference.
