no dial tone

I now live alone so need to activate my landline, just in case my mobile doesn't work - So I bought a phone and plugged it in, but there is no dial tone - just a long solid tone - pleq

ase help

@KLVHave you tried to plug the phone into the back of the router to see if you get a dial tone?
