Sky install engineer did not connect or test our telephone

We have just had sky installed with braodband, tv and basic phone package.  The engineer setup the broadband and TV, but when I checked (unfortunately I could not be home at the time of the installation) the telephone was still connected to my old Virgin hub.  So he did not connect and test our phone with the new Sky hub.  I have subsequently connected it and I get a message to check the phone line and obviously it does not work.  Trying to contact sky about this seems way more difficult than it should be abd the virtual assistant is useless.

It can take 24 hours or so for Sky's landline service to complete activation.

That may be the case, but I'm fairly sure the engineers job is to plug it in and check it, not leave it for the customer to find out sometime later that it's not working.

@malphadour

Even if they plugged it in they wouldn't be able to check it. Is it working now?

Re: Sky install engineer did not connect or test our telephone

It is now.  But lets consider this.  My mum is 89 and her partner is 91 - without me going and working out which ports to plug the phone into (there are two and and the phone was fitted with an adapter for the previous system) they would have struggled massivley to get it to work.

It is the engineers job to have all devices plugged in before he leaves, not hope that 2 really old people can have somebody pop round to sort it out later.
